The length of time for the expiration date or "best used before" date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.
Perishable items (such as flax oils or certain probiotics) generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage (freezer or refrigeration unit) for maximum freshness.
Our receiving department does its best to verify and then enter the correct expiration dates for all incoming products. However, discrepancies do occur from time to time. This being said, the exceptionally high turnover at iHerb ensures that our inventory is among the freshest in the industry.

Flax Seeds are a good source of iron. Sprinkle a tablespoon of ground seeds on cereal, cooked vegetables or in a "power" shake...a delicious way to incorporate flax seeds into your daily diet.

Whole Wheat Flax Loaf
1 3/4 cups warm water
1 tbsp dry yeast
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp Hain Sea Salt (optional)
2 tsp dry milk powder
2 tbsp Hain Canola Oil
4 cups Arrowhead Mills Stoneground Whole Wheat Flour
1/4 cup Arrowhead Mills Flax Seed
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add honey, sea salt, milk powder, oil and 2 cups whole wheat flour. Stir well. Add flax seed and remaining flour. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic. Shape and put in oiled loaf pan. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes or until done.
Makes 1 loaf.
Organic brown flax seeds.
Store in a cool dry place.

I can't tell any difference from any other flax seeds I've used, but I like flax seed because it is healthy.
I got these flax seeds with less than 3 months remaining till the expiration date (purchased 10/28/08; expiration date 01/07/09). That and the flax seeds looked old and the bag had a small hole in it :(
