Bob's Red Mill Currants come from the finest crops of sweet and delicious Zante and Corinth grapes. Currants are similar to raisins but with a tarter, stronger flavor. Add them to your favorite baked good recipes or snack on them right out of the bag.

Keeps best refrigerated or frozen
Whole Wheat Scones
1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour
1½ cup (toasted) Wheat Germ
1/3 cup Sugar
2 tsp. Baking Powder
1 ½ tsp. Cinnamon
½ tsp. ground Nutmeg
½ tsp. Sea Salt
½ cup Cold Butter
1 large Egg
½ cup Buttermilk
½ cup Bob's Red Mill Currants
Preheat oven to 375°. Use an ungreased 10" x 15" baking pan. In a bowl, combine whole wheat flour, wheat germ, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. With 2 knives or a pastry blender, cut in butter until coarse crumbs form. In a small bowl, beat egg with buttermilk to blend. Add egg mixture and currants to flour mixture; stir just enough to moisten evenly. Scrape dough onto baking pan; pat into a 1" thick round. With a sharp knife, cut round into 8 wedges, leave in place. Bake 30-35 minutes until browned. Serve warm or at room temperature. Cut or break scones into wedges. Yield: 8 servings.

I originally just ordered these because I didn't know what black currants were. I use them in bread now, instead of raisins, it just tastes much better to me and they're smaller than raisins so they wind up more evenly distributed, making every bite more delicious.

This tiny raisins are ideal for baking--scones, cookies, Welsh cakes, cakes, poundcakes, everything you can think of may benefit from this tasty little dudes. Sweet, with a hint of tart, they pair incredibly well with a lot of flavours, and they are soft enough to eat by the handful. Delicious!
