Made from pitted, dried and chopped dates, these chewy little nuggets are delightfully rich and sweet. They're delicious sprinkled on hot cereal where they melt like candy and perfect for baked goods or salads. Dates add a wonderful flavor wherever used and are a good source of dietary fiber. Light coated with oat flour to prevent clumping.

Quinoa Oat Date Porridge
This recipe was submitted by Lisa and Krista Shepard from McMinneville, Oregon
- 1/4 cup Organic Quinoa Grain
- 1/4 cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1-1/2 cups Non-dairy Milk Beverage of choice (soy, hemp, coconut, rice)*
- 1/4 cup Date Crumbles
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp Flaxseed Meal
Bring non-dairy milk to a boil in a large saucepan. Add quinoa and oats, cover, and simmer 20 minutes. Turn off heat, then stir in dates, cinnamon, and flaxseed meal. Portion into 2 bowls for a hearty breakfast! Serves two.
*Because the grains need to boil, non-dairy milk works best in this recipe. You can, alternately, use half cow's milk and water or just water.

My family tries to not be without both date pieces and date crumbles. If iherb is temporarily out of stock, I am not! I have two extra packages now, just in case! My son presently has one package ahead. So definately, this product is worth having on hand! They are good with hot cereal, cold cereal, tapioca pudding, trail mix, and used in place of raisins.

The date crumbles were harder than I had expected, and have just not made as much use for them yet. Have tried them in oatmeal cookies though, and they turned out nice.

These dates are the perfect snack or dessert when you need something sweet & healthy. I often put a small sprinkle on oatmeal too. Fresh & delicious!

I use them in cakes and for adding taste to my waterkefir. Excellent price. Will buy more :-)
