The length of time for the expiration date or "best used before" date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.
Perishable items (such as flax oils or certain probiotics) generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage (freezer or refrigeration unit) for maximum freshness.
Our receiving department does its best to verify and then enter the correct expiration dates for all incoming products. However, discrepancies do occur from time to time. This being said, the exceptionally high turnover at iHerb ensures that our inventory is among the freshest in the industry.
The Shipping Weight includes the product, protective packaging material and the actual shipping box. Whole Grains and Beans Soup is a hearty blend of beans, seeds and whole grains. Containing no seasonings, this soup base is versatile and a delightful way to add the health benefits of beans and whole grains to your diet. Basic Cooking Instructions
- 1 cup Bob's Red Mill Whole Grains and Beans Soup Mix
- 4 cups Vegetable or Chicken Stock
Place broth and soup mix in a medium stock pot and bring to a boil. Add any spices, vegetables, meats and salt as desired. Reduce heat to a low simmer and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Serves 4.

A few people have commented that some of Bob's soups are "too hard" or "the sesame seeds look like floating bugs" (really!). You have to soak the beans overnight! This really cuts down on the cooking time. Yes there are some different textures in the soup but these are BEANS! (hehe) One idea that gives the soup a even texture is to blend it (in a blender) when it is cooked to a completely smooth texture or slightly chunky texture. It is more like green pea soup which some people are more used to. Add a smoked sausage/wiener/ham and YUM. Definitely try the curry soup recipe on the back, add carrots and potatoes and you have a delicious subtle curry soup. I used 3 tbsp of plain curry powder and a tsp of garam marsala and a tsp of hot curry powder. Experiment! With overnight soaking, the beans take 1.5 hours (boil and simmer) or a few hours in a crock pot (my preferred method).
This is the best soup mix ever! I made one batch using chicken broth & another using vegetable broth. Also added some ham chunks, but would be great without it. Love the grains added. Much better than just beans.
