The length of time for the expiration date or "best used before" date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.
Perishable items (such as flax oils or certain probiotics) generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage (freezer or refrigeration unit) for maximum freshness.

Keeps best refrigerated or frozen
For four hearty servings, bring 1 cup Bob's Red Mill Oat Groats, 3 cups water and ¼ tsp salt to a boil. Cover, turn heat down and simmer for 50 to 60 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Topped with brown sugar, cinnamon and a bit of butter, it makes a delicious breakfast cereal. Garnish with your favorite seasonings, vegetables and/or meats for a fantastic pilaf

I love being able to press my own oats in my oat roller to keep the nutrients intact as long as possible. I can make oatmeal or grind it to a coarse grain and my own cream of wheat style cereal using some other grains as well.
