Wild Rice has a distinct, unique taste. It will enhance the flavor of any meal, from the simple to the gourmet specialty. It can be used as a side dish and as a bedding for fish, fowl or meat. Add cooked wild rice to quiche, pancakes, eggs and omelets. Try it in your favorite soup and stew recipes. Create your own special delights by using it in and on all types of salads.
Diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods low in total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.

1 cup Bob's Red Mill Wild Rice
4 cups Water
1/2 tsp. Salt (optional)
Rinse rice thoroughly in a strainer. Place the wild rice and 4 cups water in a heavy 3 quart Saucepan (salt optional). Many chefs prefer to add salt after cooking. This procedure generally insures proper grain expansion and the enhancement of natural wild rice flavor. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low boil, cover loosely and cook 45 to 60 minutes, or until rice has puffed and most of liquid has absorbed. Remove from heat. Fluff rice with fork, cover tightly and let stand for 5 minutes. Drain off any excess water. (For a softer texture wild rice, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup more water when cooking.)
