Best Stabilized R-Lipoic Acid contains BioEnhanced Na-RALA, the sodium salt of R-Lipoic Acid (RLA). Unlike pure RLA, BioEnhanced Na-RALA is a stabilized form of RLA that won't degrade at high temperatures, is more bioavailable than regular RLA and has no solvent residues.
Lipoic acid (LA) plays an important role in glucose metabolism and energy production. Because it is soluble in both water and fat, LA is known as the "universal antioxidant." LA occurs in two forms, designated as "R" and "S." Studies suggest that RLA, the natural form, is more biologically active than the S form.
Note: The RLA in this product is stabilized with Na (sodium). However, one serving of this product contains less than 1% of the Daily Value for sodium, an insignificant contribution to dietary sources. Research suggests that sodium may impact blood pressure in some individuals only when it is consumed as sodium chloride (NaCl, table salt) and not in other forms. The sodium in this product is unlikely to affect blood pressure levels.
Take 1 - 2 capsules daily with or without food, or as directed by a nutritionally informed physician.

I was diagnosed with Type 2, Diabetes 5 years ago. I am 70 years old. The worst case scenario for for diabetic is nerve damage in feet and legs causing burning, tingling and numbness and even amputations. Eye damage which can lead to blindness and kidney failure. Within the first year I began to have issues with my left leg and foot as mentioned above. I read about Lipoic Acid and that the R-Lipooic acid was the best kind. I started taking 500 Mg. per day, which is considered safe, even at 1200 Mg. I used Dr.Best and Life Extensions 300 Mg to make up the 500 Mg. dose. I no longer have any leg or foot issues. My Opthamologist said there was no evidence of any damage to my eyes. R-Lipoic acid is not a license to eat WRONG, but it has played a big role in preventing and reversing nerve damage for me I believe. Other diabetic I know are having their toes removed, walking with canes due to nerve damage, etc., and losing their eye sight. Learn to eat right and exercise and take R-Lipoic Acid and a high grade fish oil. Educate yourself on Diabetes, as you will get little help from your doctors as a general rule. Most Diabetic cook books are a mere hint of what they should be. Bitter Melon Capsules have also helped lower my blood sugar, which I buy from I-Herb. No one thing is a cure all for this disease. You must change your life style and eating habits.
The article that I read informed that R-Lipoic Acid was a good product to enhance eye health for patients with glaucoma along with traditional meds. I received the best eye test since I learned that I had the disease.
Not just for making your pee more expensive ! !

I've tried a few different brands and types of ALA and this is by far the best one that I have ever encountered and at a very good price. ALA is an interesting vitamin in that it comes in a variety of types even though most don't actually label which type you are getting. When traditional ALA is made synthetically it is a 50/50 blend of two different types of ALA ( R and S types). These types are mirror images of each other molecularly but, studies have shown that only the R type is actually used by the body though so most ALA supplements are actually only 50% effective and the S type is just turned into expensive pee. Some companies will filter out the R type which is better but even then most of the ALA that you take cannot be absorbed by the body. This is why this brand uses Sodium (Chemical symbol Na) to bond to the ALA which then lets the body absorb 250% more and let it actually get into the blood stream. So this product is actually chemically 5 times as effective as a R & S blend and 2.5 times more effective than an R-ALA vitamin. Search on PubMed or other medical journal sites and you'll find mountains of actual clinical evidence touting NA-R-ALA for many different reasons. I've been taking it very regularly since 05/2014 and its antioxident effects definitely have helped me stay and feel healthy even though everyone else was getting sick and it also was a clear trigger in helping me lose weight by stabilizing blood sugar levels. At first it did give me pretty bad stomach aches until I got use to it and now I can easily take it with no discomfort even without food. . . Click YES if you like this review.

I have used Doctor's Best for other supplements. It is competitive in quality and price. Therefore, sometimes I choose between brands to get the best price. As long as it is better quality AND price I am satisfied. I always watch the sales as well. One of my recent visits to the local chain health store I found each supplement I was seeking to replace was an average of $3 more. So, unless they are having their quarterly sale I cannot always wait to buy nor pay the higher cost. I always consider shipping time to avoid that issue. I LOVE I HERB. So glad I found them several years ago.
