Ideal for showering, shampooing and facial grooming, this 3-in-1 wonder is made with natural pine tar oil to deeply cleanse, deodorize and moisture from head to toe.
Sodium palmate, sodium cocoate/sodium palm/kernelate, water (aqua), glycerin, pinus paulstris wood tar, sodium chloride, sodium gluconate.
No phthalates, sulfates, parbens, edta, glutens, animal by-products, artificial fragrances or colorants.
Let me start off by saying that this soap is fantastic (as long as you can tolerate the smell). It does a great job at keeping your skin hydrated, even during the winter months. It is worth noting that the 4.25 oz bar is the original formula from 1878 which contains sodium tallowate (animal fat) as its base. Although I do not consider this a problem, some users may prefer a vegetable based alternative. If so, go with the 3.25 bar. It contains all of the same ingredients as the 4.25 oz bar, minus the animal fat.
I ordered this soap after developing an extremely severe rash after delivering my son. This condition, known as PUPPS, occurs in some small percent of pregnant women/new mums. The rash was AWFUL -- insanely itchy and spreading fast all over my body. Medical science doesn't quite know what causes it, and the GP couldn't offer me any medication as I was breastfeeding. On researching it online, I found that several women had benefited from using Grandpa's Wonder Pine Tar Soap, so I ordered some. iHerb delivered it in record time for a very reasonable cost (I live in the UK and it's not available here). The soap is FANTASTIC! My rash was much, much better in a few days, 80-90% better in 2 weeks, and now, 3 weeks later, it has more or less vanished. This soap saved my life!! It does have a bit of an unusual smell, but I got used to it very quickly.
The cleaner feeling

Bought this soap after I ran out of some homemade Norwegian tar soap and haven't regretted. Unlike some reviews I've read earlier, I don't agree it smells "too much" tar. Perhaps this is on account of my earlier experience with tar soap. The main reason for using this kind of soap is based on my skin itching after using modern shower soaps, never mind how much water I use to wash of the soap after lathering in. The itching borders on maddening and somehow I don't have a medical reason for it happening. Tar soap solves this problem by the simple fact it doesn't leave residue on the skin. Lathering on and washing off leaves my skin feeling clean and "dry", in the good sense of the word. And my skin doesn't itch anymore. Highly recommended for people who need a soap where the intention is to leave the skin feeling really clean after a shower. I also use it for my hair, though it might leave long hair tangled on account of its good oil and greasy stripping abilities.

The smell is strong but it would disappear after wash. It is too dry to use on hair. Should use conditioner after.

Been using and reordering for few years now and the product doesn't disappoint. It works to ease redness, itch, flaking, etc. Smell is earthy and different at first but easily accustomed to as time goes by. My wife even uses it from time to time for a more tonifying wash on problem skin areas, etc.
