Lotus Foods, Heirloom Forbidden Rice, 15 oz (426 g)

The length of time for the expiration date or "best used before" date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.
Perishable items (such as flax oils or certain probiotics) generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage (freezer or refrigeration unit) for maximum freshness.
Our receiving department does its best to verify and then enter the correct expiration dates for all incoming products. However, discrepancies do occur from time to time. This being said, the exceptionally high turnover at iHerb ensures that our inventory is among the freshest in the industry.
The Shipping Weight includes the product, protective packaging material and the actual shipping box. In addition, the Shipping Weight may be adjusted for the Dimensional Weight (e.g. length, width & height) of a package. It is important to note that certain types of products (e.g. glass containers, liquids, fragile, refrigerated or ice packed) will often require protective packaging material. As such, these products will reflect a higher Shipping Weight compared to the unprotected product.

Better For You
Legend has it this ancient grain, referred to as 'longevity rice,' was reserved for the emperors of China. Treasured for its delicious roasted nutty taste, soft texture and beautiful deep purple color, Forbidden Rice is a natural source of antioxidants called anthocyanins—purple pigments also found in blueberries and acai—but without the sugar. A dramatic presence on any plate, this wholesome rice cooks in only 30 minutes. Now you can eat like an emperor every day!
Better for People
Forbidden Rice is grown on hundreds of small family farms in Heilongjiang, the Black Dragon River region of China's northeast provinces. Our price premiums translate directly into more income, better health, and brighter prospects for these families
Combine 1 3/4 cups water, 1 cup rice and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand covered for a few minutes. Fluff and serve.
A rice cooker may be used with the same water-to-rice ratio. 1 cup raw rice yields 3 cups cooked rice.
Use in any rice dish or cuisine, from savory to sweet. Great for pilafs, puddings, salads, soups, stir-fries and stuffings. Makes a nutritious breakfast cereal, including jook. Or just enjoy steamed plain with vegetable, seafood or meat entree.

So delicious and nutritious. In addition to being gluten free and suitable for people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance, this ancient Chinese rice is rich in protein, dietary fiber, niacin (vitamin B3), vitamin B6, thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), folic acid (vitamin B9), manganese, selenium, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, iron, calcium, potas sium, phytosterols, antioxidants and flavonoids (including the very rare anthocyanins responsible for its dark color), and is beneficial for people suffering from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease, gastritis, acid reflux, nausea, indigestion, osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatism and even cancer: it helps stabilize blood sugar and regulate insulin levels, prevents blood spikes keeping you full longer, aids digestion, prevents heartburn and acid reflux, increases appetite, soothes the stomach lining, reduces colon inflammation, normalizes blood pressure, lowers triglycerides and LDL or "bad" cholesterol levels while increasing HDL or "good" cholesterol, protects against strokes, atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease, helps maintain healthy bones and teeth, and even reduces the risk of cancer. I love this rice: not only is it delicious and great in different recipes, but also it helps normalize my cholesterol levels and blood pressure and relieves the symptoms of my acid reflux and gastritis. Wonderful product. Highly recommended.
This is my favorite rice. I was unable to get it at my local health food store anymore. I'm so glad to find that iherb carries it!
