Better For You
In Khmer this aromatic rice is called Phka Malis, which means jasmine flowers. Leaving the germ and bran layer intact gives Mekong Flower Rice its rich nutty taste and high nutritional value. With its pleasant soft texture and fast cooking time, you won't think you're eating a whole grain!
Better For People
Mekong Flower Rice is grown on small family plots by members of the Damrei Romeal Organic Producers Federation, Takeo Province. Our price premiums translate directly into more income, better health, and brighter prospects for these families.
Better For The Planet
Flooding rice fields consume up to 1/3 of the earth's annual freshwater supplies. Our producers use System of Rice Intensification (SRI) Practices, which require a lot less water and seeds to produce more crop per drop. And drained fields emit little or no methane. We're taking rice production beyond organic!
More Crop Per Drop
50% less water + 90% less seed = 3X more rice
Certified organic by International Certification Services, Inc.
Combine 1 3/4 cups water, 1 cup rice and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand covered for a few minutes. Fluff and serve.
A rice cooker may be used with the same water-to rice ratio.
1 cup raw rice yields 3 cups cooked rice
Use in any rice dish or cuisine, from savory to sweet. Great for pilafs, puddings, salads, soups, stir-fries, and stuffings. Or just enjoy steamed plain with a vegetable, seafood or meat entree.

iHerb Customer Reviews
I have been eating Mekong Flower organic Brown Rice (from Cambodia) for about 4 months now, and it is the healthiest brown rice I can find. I switched to it after suffering severe arsenic poisoning from all the U.S.-grown rice products I was eating (organic brown rice, organic brown rice pasta and organic millet-rice bread). The problem with brown rice is that it is ALWAYS contaminated with arsenic, a toxic heavy metal, no matter what country it is grown in. It is inherent to this grain, which must be grown in a water-flooded soil; this allows large amounts of normally present arsenic to be sucked up into the plant. "Though arsenic can enter soil or water due to weathering of arsenic-containing minerals in the earth, humans are more to blame than Mother Nature for arsenic contamination in the U.S. today, according to the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The U.S. is the world’s leading user of arsenic, and since 1910 about 1.6 million tons have been used for agricultural and industrial purposes, about half of it only since the mid-1960s. Residues from the decades of use of lead-arsenate insecticides linger in agricultural soil today, even though their use was banned in the 1980s." From http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2012/11/arsenic-in-your-food/index.htm So in my local health food store I found brown rices from overseas (I now get them from iHerb at lower cost): Madagascar Pink rice was very good for me for about 3 months, but it is milled so it is only 2/3 whole, and 1/3 white. Then I tried Volcano Rice from Indonesia, but that is more than 1/2 white rice, so I switched to Organic Brown Mekong Flower Rice, 100% whole grain! I eat it for my high protein lunch with low-salt Goat Creme Cheese and Pumpkin Seed Butter. Delicious, filling, and healthy!!
So delicious and nutritious. In addition to being gluten free and suitable for people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance, this ancient brown rice is rich in protein, dietary fiber, niacin (vitamin B3), vitamin B6, thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), folic acid (vitamin B9), manganese, selenium, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, iron, calcium, potas sium, molybdenum, phytosterols, antioxidants and flavonoids, and is beneficial for people suffering from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease, gastritis, acid reflux, nausea, indigestion, osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatism and even cancer: it helps stabilize blood sugar and regulate insulin levels, prevents blood spikes keeping you full longer, aids digestion, prevents heartburn and acid reflux, increases appetite, soothes the stomach lining, reduces colon inflammation, normalizes blood pressure, lowers triglycerides and LDL or "bad" cholesterol levels while increasing HDL or "good" cholesterol, protects against strokes, atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease, helps maintain healthy bones and teeth, and even reduces the risk of cancer. I love this organic brown rice: not only is it delicious and great in different recipes, but also it helps normalize my cholesterol levels and blood pressure and relieves the symptoms of my acid reflux and gastritis. Wonderful product. Highly recommended.
