Be Part Of The Solution
Lotus Foods rices are selected for superior taste, fast and easy cooking, and nutritional value. We partner in fair trade with small family farmers to preserve local biodiversity and grow rice more sustainably. This means more healthy rice choices for you and your family, a cleaner environment, and improved quality of life for farmers.
Better For You
Legend has it this ancient grain referred to as 'longevity rice,' was reserved for the emperors of China. Treasured for its delicious roasted nutty taste, soft texture and beautiful deep purple color, Forbidden Rice is a natural source of antioxidants called anthocyanins—purple pigments also found in blueberries and acai—but without the sugar. A dramatic presence on any plate, this wholesome rice cooks in only 30 minutes. Now you can eat like an emperor every day!
Better For People
Forbidden Rice is grown organically on hundreds of small family farms in Heilongjiang, the Black Dragon River region of China’s northeast provinces. Our price premiums translate directly into more income, better health, and brighter prospects for these families.
Better For The Planet
We are ramping up our commitment to support farmers who are adopting practices that go beyond organic. Using the System of Rice Intensification or SRI, they can improve their yields and incomes with less water, seed and no agrochemicals. Look for the More Crop Per Drop icon on the front of our retail bags for rice that has been grown using water-saving SRI practices.

So delicious and nutritious. In addition to being gluten free and suitable for people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance, this ancient Chinese rice is rich in protein, dietary fiber, niacin (vitamin B3), vitamin B6, thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), folic acid (vitamin B9), manganese, selenium, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, iron, calcium, potas sium, phytosterols, antioxidants and flavonoids (including the very rare anthocyanins responsible for its dark color), and is beneficial for people suffering from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease, gastritis, acid reflux, nausea, indigestion, osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatism and even cancer: it helps stabilize blood sugar and regulate insulin levels, prevents blood spikes keeping you full longer, aids digestion, prevents heartburn and acid reflux, increases appetite, soothes the stomach lining, reduces colon inflammation, normalizes blood pressure, lowers triglycerides and LDL or "bad" cholesterol levels while increasing HDL or "good" cholesterol, protects against strokes, atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease, helps maintain healthy bones and teeth, and even reduces the risk of cancer. I love this amazing rice: not only is it delicious and great in different recipes, but also it helps normalize my cholesterol levels and blood pressure and relieves the symptoms of my acid reflux and gastritis. Wonderful product. Highly recommended.
takes about 30-40min to cook, half the time of whole rice.easier to digest than whole rice and the texture is rich & somewhat flexible.very glad i tried this one,its a keeper!...

The taste is somewhat strange compared to red/brown rice, but I believe it should be so.
