Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) performs both enzyme co-factor and antioxidant functions in the body. It is naturally found in the body as dehydrolipoate or lipoate. Its unique fatty acid thiol structure makes it both fat and water soluble, which enables it to function in the regeneration of vitamins C and E (powerful antioxidants) and glutathione. ALA has recently been shown to support normal carbohydrate metabolism, detoxification and eye function.
