Soluble fiber from oatmeal, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. One serving of oatmeal supplies 2 grams of the 3 grams of beta-glucan soluble fiber necessary per day to have this effect.
Oatmeal is a low saturated fat, sodium free, cholesterol free food, and a good source of fiber. Contains 2.5 g of total fat per serving.

Mixing Directions for Irish Porridge:
Into four cups of briskly boiling water sprinkle one cup of oatmeal, stirring well. When the porridge is smooth and beginning to thicken, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Traditionally served with fresh buttermilk, Irish porridge is also good with milk or cream and brown or honey, or with butter.
Short Cut Method to Steel Cut Oats:
Boil four cups of water in a pot. Add 1 cup of steel cut oats and simmer 1 minute. Cover pot and store overnight in refrigerator. The next morning cook the oatmeal on low for 9-12 minutes; stirring occasionally. This recipe prepares 4 servings. For thicker oatmeal, use less water.

I discovered McCann's Irish Oatmeal when I lived in Paris some 40 years ago. So wonderful was it that I wrote to the company in Ireland to congratulate them on the product. To my great surprise, they wrote me back a charming letter and sent me six tins of this product as a gift to thank me for my enthusiasm. I only recently discovered that iherb.com sells it. Hooray! It is like no other oatmeal on earth. It takes 30 minutes to simmer and is well worth the wait. I love mine topped with butter or sheep's milk and a sprinkling of organic cinnamon.
I love it a lot more than a regular quick "1 min" oatmeal. I don't cook it as recommended on the package. I make it a lot more simple: in the evening I take thermos, preheat it with boiling water, add 4 tbsp of oats, fill it up with boiling water, close the thermos tightly and leave till the morning. In the morning I serve warm oatmeal with fruits and honey.

I have always been a fan of old fashioned rolled oats...until now! Irish Oatmeal is my new favorite. BTW, it has many uses besides just being a cereal with milk and sugar. I use it instead of toast with my morning poached egg...so filling you can go all day without getting hungry. Also use it (cooked) as a thickener in my daily vegetable soup. Make it ahead and freeze daily portions. It heats up in the microwave in two minutes. Couldn't be easier!

I love how this oatmeal tastes, but the only way i can eat it if i let it soften in water over night, and then mix it with almond milk in the morning.
The best oatmeal ever! Delicious!

This product is absolutely the best available. Comparing it to the ground up "quick" version of oatmeals on the market, there is no contest. It is what food should be, nutritious and delicious without processing and doused with additives.

I've tried oats from a variety of regions (Europe, USA, Australia) and these are easily the most flavoursome. They turn out totally differently from other varieties. Seemed surprising to me they could be so different, however compare Italian pasta to that from other regions and the differences have some meaning.
