A Supercritical New Chapter In Positive Emotional Health
St. John's SC27 is a unique, supercritical extract of St. John's Wort. St. John's Wort is recognized for its ability to safely and naturally support positive emotional health. Scientists have extensively studied St. John's Wort to determine which of its constituents has the ability to modulate or balance brain chemistry. Scientists have now determined that a class of phytonutrients called "hyperforin" are most responsible for St. John's Wort's beneficial effects. New Chapter's St. John's SC27 provides a broad spectrum of supercritically extracted, highly stable and concentrated hyperforin.
New Chapter's Supercritical Herbal Extracts
"Supercritical" means Super Purity, Super Potency, Broad Spectrum, and No Chemical Solvents. We take nature's finest herbs and then extract and highly concentrate (as high as 250 to 1) their precious ingredients. We do not isolate out single ingredients or spike our extracts with synthesized additives. We deliver the wisdom of nature with the complexity and organic nuances of the natural herb preserved for you. In fact, the supercritical process is the gentlest way to extract these delicate plant compounds in a manner to optimally preserve their potency and stability. And when you take New Chapter's supercritical extracts, neither you, nor the environment, have to contend with chemical solvents.

Caution: As with any dietary or herbal supplement, you should advise your healthcare practitioner of the use of this product. If you are taking a prescription medicine, check with a healthcare professional before using. St. John's Wort is not recommended for children, or for women who are nursing, pregnant, or considering pregnancy. Although phototoxicity in humans is rare, fair-skinned individuals should avoid excessive exposure to sunlight when using St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum). May potentiate pharmaceutical MAO-inhibitors. Use of Hypericum perforatum with pharmaceutical antiretrovirals such as protease inhibitors, non-nuclease reverse transcriptase inhibitors, and other drugs that are similarly metabolized (such as birth control pills, digoxin, cyclosporine, blood thinners, chemotherapy drugs, asthma medications or drugs relating to the treatment of HIV) is not recommended and should be done only under the direct supervision of one's physician. Other potential side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, tiredness, and mild allergic reactions (skin rash).

I switched to SC27 from another popular brand about two months ago, and have found this formula to more effective for me. I would argue that it is difficult to rate St. John's Wort because it may work for some people and it may not work as well or at all for others. But if you decide to try it, give it a couple of weeks to work. I noticed some side-effects when I switched to this brand. 1) Dizziness 2) Jumpiness (similar to large dose of caffeine) about four hours after taking it 3) Upset stomach about 20 minutes after taking it (lasting about an hour). The first two side-effects went away completely after two weeks and I experience stomach discomfort much less often now as well. Still, the benefit of taking this remedy has outweighed the minimal side-effects for me (especially minimal compared to those listed with prescription antidepressants). I advocate for reading up about this herbal remedy, it is the number one prescribed antidepressant in Germany (available there only by prescription). Note: it has cautions - for example cannot be taken with certain medications.
Does nothing for mood and causes extreme nausea. Would be good for weight loss!
I am sooo bummed that this is discontinued.....

This works for my depression as good as an antidepressant without nasty side effects
Great as a sleep aid and for the winter blues

My boyfriend gets the winter blues and so we bought this to help with that. We then discovered that it has been helping him sleep better at night as well. Just be sure not to mix it with alcohol. It's very effective, it has helped a lot with mood issues and when the winter creates stretches of days without much sunlight.

Found this way too strong for me. I was having nightmares and panic attacks almost daily, when I've had neither before or since. Also left me feeling quite numb, which pharmaceutical antidepressants are renowned for but that the SJW I'm taking now doesn't. It's possible these would actually work better than the alternatives at a smaller dose, but once a day pills don't let you titrate...
