- Complete "Free-Form" Blend of All 9 Essential Amino Acids
- GMP Quality Assured
- A Dietary Supplement
Amino acids are the subunits that make up proteins. They are necessary for the function of all cells, for tissue repair, and for the production of enzymes and neurotransmitters. The body uses 20 amino acids to construct proteins, but nine "essential amino acids" cannot be made by the human body and must be supplied by the diet in order to achieve proper protein synthesis and maintain overall health. People with limited diets or poor digestion may not get enough essential amino acids from their diet. In contrast to proteins or peptide-bound amino acids, NOW Amino-9 Essentials contains all 9 essential amino acids in their superior free-form state and in the proportions recommended by the National Academy of Sciences to optimize protein synthesis and tissue repair for adults age 19 and over.
As a dietary supplement, mix 2 1/4 level teaspoons with 8 fl oz of juice or your favorite beverage 1 to 3 times daily. Competitive athletes and individuals engaged in resistance training may take 2 servings 3 times daily. Taking with juice or other beverage is recommended due to bitter taste of free-form amino acids. Consider taking this product in combination with NOW L-Carnitine, D-Ribose and Creatine.
Contains no salt, yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, shellfish or preservatives.

iHerb Customer Reviews
Essental amino acids are the amino acids the body can't make. L-glutamine and whey protein are a waste of money for building muscle. NOW has a well formulated formula too based on scientific research. It is amazing that there aren't more complete essential amino acid products being sold. If one takes branched amino acids that can affect phenylalanine levels, tyrosine levels and tryptophan levels as the branched chain amino acid transporter uptakes branched chain amino acids, phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan so if one takes branched chain amino acids alone that can adversely affect phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan levels. Phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan are required for neurotransmitter synthesis. Amino acids, of course, work together and must be balanced with each other. The NOW formula insures that there is an amino acid balance. NOW did a terrific job with this formulation.
I want to take the amino acids, but protein shakes seem to disagree with me. This has all 8 essentials, which is convenient. Plus, it's hard to buy some of the aminos at all (ie. histidine)
