Now L-Lysine is a Pharmaceutical Grade essential amino acid.
L-Lysine is an essential amino acid that must be obtained through the diet or through supplementation. Lysine is necessary for the production of all proteins in the body, and is required for the maintenance of the structural proteins collagen and elastin, which form all connective tissue such as skin, tendon, and bone. L-Lysine is also a precursor to L-carnitine, which is needed for fat metabolism and energy production. In addition, L-Lysine may help to support a healthy immune system and proper cardiovascular function.

I am constantly amazed at the number of healthcare people (i.e. doctors, etc.) who are unaware of the almost magical qualities of L-Lysine! This particular brand is the best I've ever found, as its capsule composition is so easy to swallow--unlike the chalky, over-sized tablets. They help in weight loss, speed healing of canker & cold sores, the list goes on--a must for anyone undergoing chemotherapy.
It is too soon to tell if it keeps frequent outbreaks of cold sores at bay. As I become more menopausal I find that outbreaks have increased from very infrequent, to frequent so I hope L-Lysine works.
good in small doses

Taking lysine with vitamin c to reverse atherosclerosis, for the immunity, cold sores, high glucose, and anxiety. It has also helped my husband heal his swollen knee in just three days (its good for building collagen, for the skin and bones). Low level of L-lysine is manifested as nausea, vomiting, feeling tired all the time and dizzy for no apparent reason. In the same way, a dangerously low level of L-lysine may manifest itself through the inability of getting pregnant, if you are a woman. However, those with kidney and liver problems should be careful with it; also, one can develop gallstones from too much lysine; it raises cholesterol.

Ever have a cold sore? You won't if you take this. You will get less colds, it works for EBV, shingles, and it helps keep your skin clear. I take this everyday. Great stuff.
