Now Foods, Maitake Mushroom, 60 mg, 60 Veggie Caps
By Now Foods16 Reviews
The length of time for the expiration date or "best used before" date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.
Perishable items (such as flax oils or certain probiotics) generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage (freezer or refrigeration unit) for maximum freshness.
Our receiving department does its best to verify and then enter the correct expiration dates for all incoming products. However, discrepancies do occur from time to time. This being said, the exceptionally high turnover at iHerb ensures that our inventory is among the freshest in the industry.
The Shipping Weight includes the product, protective packaging material and the actual shipping box. In addition, the Shipping Weight may be adjusted for the Dimensional Weight (e.g. length, width & height) of a package. It is important to note that certain types of products (e.g. glass containers, liquids, fragile, refrigerated or ice packed) will often require protective packaging material. As such, these products will reflect a higher Shipping Weight compared to the unprotected product.

The "Maitake" (Grifola frondosa) is literally translated in Japanese to "dancing mushroom". It is highly regarded in Asia for its culinary and medicinal qualities. Mushrooms contain active components known as polysaccharides which have become the subject of much research as to their effect on good health.

I used this as an immune enhancer, it probably worked, because I didn't catch a single cold during winter. Click on my username for more reviews! If you thought that this review was helpful please feel free to press the 'yes' button.
After much experimentation I have found that the combination of one NOW Maitake extract gelcap plus one Solgar Blueberry *Leaf* extract, taken before a meal (ideally 10-15 minutes) pack a punch for me in preventing blood sugar spikes in either direction (ie., high earlier or low later). Especially helpful for higher-carb meals. One Maitake extract gelcap taken alone doesn't accomplish much for me in this regard (though it may certainly have long-term benefits; while one Blueberry Leaf extract gelcap taken alone definitely helps, but not nearly so well as when combined with the NOW Maitake extract. The downsides are that this makes a somewhat expensive herbal combination if taken multiple times a day (though cheaper at iHerb than anywhere else!); and that both extracts also contain whole-herb powder -- which may add to the benefit, but whole-herb powder can sometimes contain a bit of lead or cadmium, even with deservedly reputable brands like these...probably not enough to worry about, but I do like to keep it in mind when significantly increasing whole-herb intake.
