Folic Acid must first be converted to its active form by a series of biochemical steps, before it is able to be used by the body. Metafolin (L-methylfolate) requires no conversion because it is bioidentical to the bio-active form. In other words, it is 'body-ready'. This can be useful for individuals whose bodies have difficulty converting folic acid to its active form. The active folate in this formulation promotes heart health. It also supports a healthy nervous system and the formation of healthy red blood cells.
As a dietary supplement for adults, take one (1) tablet daily, preferably at mealtime, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.

Sixty percent of people are either heterozygous or homozygous for the MTHFR polymorphism, meaning regular folic acid is not only useless, but potentially harmful because it blocks absorption of the meagre amounts of methyl folate we receive. Methyl folate, as the activated form, completely bypasses this problem. Methyl folate is so important for methylation pathways, and a lack can contribute to depression, elevated homocysteine levels, CFS/ME, fibromyalgia, heart disease, fertility problems, and a host of other degenerative conditions. This product is so important, particularly since most supplements are full of folic acid which as I said above can cause more harm than good. Everyone should be taking this instead. Highly, highly recommended. Thanks for stocking it iHerb!!!
I found this superior to Thorne's 5-MTHF. I tried Thorne's since it's in capsules which I usually prefer but surprising didn't feel the positive effects that had been experiencing with Solgar. I switched back to Solgar and immediately felt better once again. The chemical composition is different and for me at least, made a difference. The Solgar brand really helps my gut inflammation and clears up headaches but for me needs to be taken and kept in balance with methyl b 12 and the other b vitamins. I will crash and experience muscle weakness if taking metafolin alone but it's a tremendous help if I balance it correctly with sublingual methyl b12 and the other b vitamins.
Great to take with my prenatal that didn't have natural folate

I continue taking this - notice a decline in how I feel when I'm not taking it (more fatigued).
Excellent customer service..xxx

When is the best time to take this folate vitamin? I have heard that it is better to combine with the vitamin b12? I only just received my supplements today. Thanx
This is the right form of Folate that should be used instead of Folic Acid

This is the right form of Folate that should be used instead of Folic Acid however it may well be too potent in causing detox symptoms so I prefer Folinic Acid. This could be important to those with MTHFR gene mutations.
Felt a positive difference in half an hour of taking this methylfolate

i suspected I had a mthfr gene mutation ( it's estimated 40-50% of people have this, so it's worth finding out if you have a variation of the 5 MTHFR gene mutation that prevents your body being able to utilise folate from food sources) Since I couldn't afford to get the test to find out if I have a gene mutation, I decided to buy these after muscle testing indicated I was seriously deficient in folate , despite eating one to two cups of cooked greens a day. I felt a tangible shift for the better in my mood and energy within half an hour of taking one tablet! I have not tried any other brand of l-methyl folate, and feel really happy with the results I'm getting using this brand, so will stick with it . Great price and product in my opinion.
