Extra Niacin and Niacinamide in a Comprehensive B-Complex Formula
- Unlike many B vitamin products, B-complex #3 contains the active forms for enhanced bioavailability
- B-complex #3 contains an optimal balance of essential B vitamins with extra vitamin B3 as niacin and niacinamide
- B-complex #3 is yeast free
A component of the water-soluble vitamin B-complex, niacin (vitamin B3, nicotinic acid) is involved in numerous reactions in the body. Niacin is essential for proper metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Furthermore, it is needed for alcohol detoxification; in fact, alcoholism is a prime cause of vitamin B3 deficiency. Niacinamide may also have unique benefits in carbohydrate metabolism and the support of healthy joints.
Thorne's B-Complex #3 supplies 20 mg niacin and 275 mg niacinamide and the bioactive forms of the other B vitamins in each capsule to ensure you get the most bioavailable B-complex available.
B-Complex #3 also consists of a group of eight water-soluble compounds: thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3), pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), cobalamin (vitamin B12), folate, and biotin. Although each B vitamin is chemically distinct, they often work together in various biochemical functions throughout the body – from cellular energy production, to healthy red-blood-cell formation, to healthy neurological function. Most B vitamins, with the exception of vitamin B12, are not stored in the body; consequently, they must be acquired daily from the diet in order to maintain optimal health.
Supplementing with active B vitamins is extremely important to everyone, especially individuals who may not be able to convert non-active vitamins to their active forms in the liver because of compromised liver function, poorly functioning enzymes, digestive disturbances, or age. Dietary supplements containing these active cofactors have enhanced bioavailability, ensuring the body gets the nutrients it needs.

iHerb Customer Reviews
My integrative Doctor recommended this formula because of the P-5-P which is an activated form of B6 and easily absorbed. I've found that in the last week since I started using this product (one capsule in the morning) my mood and general outlook is much brighter and happier. One thing to be aware of is that it's better to take B vitamins in the morning or no later than lunchtime because they give you energy and and if you take them at night you might have trouble sleeping. I also take Zinc Picolinate and that is best taken closer to the evening as it helps sleep. However after taking this for a while I realised that I would get a full body flushing effect (red patches on my skin) within 10 minutes of taking this supplement and I stopped taking it. High doses of B3 (Niacin) can have that effect but when I had my kinesiologist test me for this product, it came up that it wasn't ideal for me so I stopped.
I am hypothyroid (treated with Armour) and have adrenal issues. I have been taking this 6 months and am so sorry to see it discontinued. It is better than the other B complexes for lack of energy. The difference is the amount of niacinimide, and maybe the niacin too. There is no flush with this and the types of B vitamin are the types that your body can use even if the digestive system is not doing an optimal job. If I take this after breakfast I am limber and eager to get to work all day. Otherwise not. Not sure what I will do now. Either get it from another source or try to add niacinimide to one of the other Thorne B complexes whose profile for the other Bs most matches this one. Wish I had written a review sooner so that perhaps more people would have ordered it and IHerb would continue to stock it.
