Comprehensive B Complex Support
- Unlike Many B Vitamin Products, Basic B Complex Contains the Active Forms for Enhanced Bioavailability
- Basic B Complex Contains an Optimal Balance of Essential B Vitamins
- Basic B Complex is Yeast Free
Basic B Complex consists of a group of eight water-soluble compounds: thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3), pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), cobalamin (vitamin B12), folate, and biotin. Although each B vitamin is chemically distinct, they often work together in various biochemical functions throughout the body – from cellular energy production, to healthy red-blood-cell formation, to healthy neurological function. Most B vitamins, with the exception of vitamin B12, are not stored in the body; consequently, they must be acquired daily from the diet in order to maintain optimal health.
Supplementing with active B vitamins is extremely important to everyone, especially individuals who may not be able to convert non-active vitamins to their active forms in the liver because of compromised liver function, poorly functioning enzymes, digestive disturbances, or age. Dietary supplements containing these active cofactors have enhanced bioavailability, ensuring the body gets the nutrients it needs.
Thorne Research's Basic B Complex contains the entire B-complex, including the activated forms of vitamin B2 (riboflavin 5'-phosphate), vitamin B6 (pyridoxal 5'-phosphate), folic acid (L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate), and vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin), as well as 80 mg choline citrate. Although choline is often grouped with the B vitamin family, it is not officially a B vitamin.

Excellent general use B-Complex-NON GMO
Excellent general use B-Complex-NON GMO
This is an excellent B-Complex that is well balanced. I like the fact that they use the Methyl form of B-12 and folic acid. As they explain in their literature, the methyl form is what the body uses and thus a more efficient way to supplement. Some people can't convert to the methyl form making most B-complexes ineffective. For someone who is healthy and just wants to make sure they are getting enough of the complex this is great. For someone with a specific health issue they can use this and supplement with isolated b vitamins like b3, B5, or a sublingual Methyl B12 to get the therapeutic dose they desire. Also, there is a 1 star review written by someone from Australia stating that Thorne uses GMO's in their products. I went on Thorne's website and they take a very strong policy stand against using GMO's. Below is a quote. "Thorne Research, Inc. does not make any products that contain Genetically Modified Organisms (known as GMOs)." They are also partnering with an anti GMO group. Below is another quote. "Thorne Research is partnering with the Non-GMO Project, a non-profit organization that verifies that products are free of GMOs or materials derived from GMOs. The Non-GMO Project has developed a nationally recognized standard that has been developed by industry partners who, like Thorne Research, share the concern about the long-term safety of GMOs." I have no interest in defending Thorne. They are big enough to defend themselves. I just don't like it when someone takes a shot at someone with un- true info. Not right for me
Not right for me
I like that this formulation does not mega dose B6 (only 10 mg), though the mega doses of other B vitamins mean this formula is not right for me. Also don't understand the need to include magnesium laurate, calcium laurate - more unnecessary junk. If this review was helpful to you, please click YES below - thank you. I began taking this B Complex a couple of months ago for good nerve protection and overall health. It is vegetarian capsule which is not always easy to find and works for my purposes.

I used to have trouble with B vitamins coming back up throughout the day. My doctor recommended these and they have worked wonderfully.

Wow I have taken basic b vitamin all my adult but I purchased Thorne at the advice of an APRN that thought this product would work great with me. Well, boy was the side effect terrible. Within 20 minutes of taking this pill my face, chest, arms and sides were covered in a hot extremely red rash! I was so nervous ... I took a Benadryl and prayed...and I was terrified because this happened while in a meeting with 20 other administrators. Beware that this can happen to you. Terrifying!
To be continued

I haven't felt this efficacy yet.
Highly effective but... beware of liver problems.

As far as I can tell this product is highly effective. 2 weeks after I have stopped taking it, I got quite a nasty flu - so a drop in the immune system was there for sure. But those who have liver issues should be very careful. This is why I've stopped taking it in the first place. The Niacin dosage IMHO is too high and leads to liver problems. Just like this guy who used to drink 4 Red Bulls every single day and three months later ended up with liver failure. Due to the Niacin in the Red Bull as the investigation showed. In my case the daily usage of 1 capsule led to having my GGT liver values almost three times higher above the upper limit. After I've stopped taking it, the aforementioned value came back to normal.
