- Dietary Supplement
Natural management of already normal cholesterol levels should involve dietary and lifestyle modifications, including a low-saturated fat, low-carbohydrate diet, and aerobic exercise. As additional supplementation, several nutrients and botanicals can be used to help maintain lipid metabolism and support the already normal cholesterol levels.
The cholesterol fraction that appears to be of most concern is LDL cholesterol, and, in particular, oxidized LDL. Antioxidant supplementation can be beneficial for decreasing the oxidation of LDL.
Choleast contains Monascus purpureus, a red-pigmented yeast grown on rice. Numerous studies in China and the United States have demonstrated that red yeast rice preparations are helpful in maintaining blood cholesterol levels already in the normal range. This is important, as maintaining optimal cholesterol levels has been shown to be one component of maintaining cardiovascular health.
In addition to naturally occurring substances called monacolins, red yeast rice contains the phytosterols beta-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol, as well as isoflavones and trace minerals, all of which can contribute to cardiovascular health.
The same enzymes involved in cholesterol synthesis are also involved in the synthesis of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). Thus, to help maintain normal levels of CoQ10, Choleast contains 15 mg CoQ10 per capsule.
As recommended by your health-care practitioner.

This is the same product that is sold by my naturopath and I save a few dollars by purchasing it through IHerb. I have found it to be effective- lowering my total cholesterol from 280 to 190 over a years time.
My Wife was involved in a near fatal RTA in 1963. She now has a VERY highly permeable blood brain barrier.Bought this product to see if the Statin could help reduce this permeabilty. Trial introduction Abandoned due to central nervous system side effects after 48 Hrs. Statins have been reported as being effective against BBB dysfunction sadly my Wife's BBB is Too compromised. My studies have been extensive and research clearly suggests that Red Rice Yeast/ statin may well be effective in reducing BBB permeability in MS situations. If you choose to go down this route may I also suggest a combined Magnesium, Calcium and Boron Supplement at RDA. Calcium in it's ionic form is a central pillar of normal BBB funtionality, and often lacking Post Menopause. God Bless.
Simply the best to control high cholesterol.

This was recommended to me by my alternative doctor to help reduce my LDL cholesterol. After 3 months, it went down considerably , so now I reduce the # of capsules I take to see if it makes a difference in the test which I'll do again in January.
