Product Overview

Description

  • Dietary Supplement
  • Hypoallergenic

Molybdenum has been identified as an essential trace element in humans, occurring as a cofactor in three important enzymatic reactions – xanthine oxidase/dehydrogenase, aldehyde oxidase, and sulfite oxidase. The first two enzymatic reactions play a role in the liver's detoxification of environmental toxins, certain drugs, estradiol, and progesterone.

Sulfite oxidase, the most important molybdenum-dependent enzyme in humans, oxidizes sulfite to sulfate, the final step in the metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids. Sulfites are frequently found in wine and in food preservatives used in meat, fish, salad bar items, and dehydrated fruits and vegetables. Sulfite sensitivity can manifest in a number of ways, such as wheezing, chest tightness, coughing, shortness of breath, flushing, itching, hives, swelling of eyes, hands and feet, nausea, headache, and diarrhea. Because molybdenum, as an essential cofactor for sulfite oxidase, can enhance sulfite metabolism, supplementation may benefit some sulfite-sensitive individuals.

Molybdenum Glycinate is a highly absorbable form of molybdenum.

Molybdenum

Posted by 5107162769610454320 on Jan 22, 2016

The Thorne Molydenum had no effect on me. I was used to buy another brand in Holland ( bonusan molybdeen ) but wanted to try this Molybdenum. I use it for candida die off reaction and brain fog. Unfortunately the Thorne product gives me back all the bad reactions I had before. I will stick with the Dutch brand. Iherb s Delivery time is great, within 3 days I recieve my order in Holland.

Gout relief!

Posted by Reviewer3150935 on Aug 27, 2015

I have suffered from gout for over 2 years now. With adjustments in diet and taking HCL and protein digesting enzymes whenever I eat meat, I was doing OK, but would still get swelling and mild pain after eating meat, fish, broth or too much fruit or fruit juice (even tart cherry!). I had taken molybdenum in liquid form before, to help deal with candida toxins. The dosage was much less than these capsules however. When I ordered this, I had no idea molybdenum could help reduce gout. Happily, I found out by taking a capsule with a meat-based meal and noticing right away that my foot was not reacting! I looked up molybdenum and found an article talking about how it's critical in urea cycles in the body. I was ecstatic! I took it daily, once or twice for a few weeks, and continued to have no gout pain. I think that taking it in afternoon/evening can interfere with my sleep some, so I only take at first meal of the day. Also, I'm now only taking it when I eat the above foods, as too much mo will actually exacerbate gout if you're prone to it. I experienced that once so I scaled back my supplementation.
