Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) has several mechanisms of action that give it wide-ranging value to body structures and functions. It is a potent water-soluble antioxidant; it enhances the immune system; and it supports connective tissue formation.
Vitamin C is essential for the support of wound healing because it is a cofactor for the synthesis of collagen and other connective tissue components. The combined effects of vitamin C on collagen synthesis, antioxidant status, and immune function make it an important nutrient for surgery patients and wound healing.
Vitamin C is necessary for the action of the enzymes involved in phase I liver detoxification. In addition, as an antioxidant it helps quench the free-radical intermediates created during this first phase of detoxifying substances in the liver. Furthermore, vitamin C raises levels of the important antioxidant glutathione by increasing its rate of synthesis, thus enhancing the liver's phase II detoxification as well. Vitamin C can also protect against the toxic effects of heavy metals such as lead, aluminum, and cadmium.
The ascorbic acid products manufactured by Thorne contain only pure, crystalline vitamin C – without added corn starch, magnesium stearate, or other lubricants and diluents – to ensure greater bioavailability and efficacy.

iHerb Customer Reviews
Supposedly OK quality (who knows) but if you email Thorne Research directly with specific questions about this product they play games and ignore you. The person who answers emails never states their name and job title either. Thorne Research needs to realize that their business model (which includes dealing with actual customer inquiries!) is in need of serious help. I never did get a reply to any of my questions after over 45 days. Shame on you, Thorne Research.
Have taken it for years and years and would recommend it to all. I never get a cold.
