Alaffia's Extra Rich Authentic African Black Soap contains additional fair trade shea butter for a skin cleansing & moisturizing experience that is silky smooth. In West Africa, black soap is known by its Yoruba name, Osse Dudu. "Dudu" means the color black, which comes from extensive "cooking" of the soap to the point of charcoal. Many cultures in West Africa use charcoal to detoxify & purify the skin.
Use: Pump small amount into hand, lather & apply to body with water for gentle cleansing. Suitable as a facial cleanser, body wash, shampoo, hand soap, and shaving soap.
Water, saponified butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter* (&) elaeis guineensis (palm kernel) oil*.

No chemical preservatives, color enhancers, or synthetic fragrances used.
100% of all ingredients are Fair Trade Certified. Handmade by Alaffia in Olympia, WA USA from ingredients made by our Cooperatives in Togo, Africa.
Best multipurpose soap I've used. Very efficient product - lathers very well with only a little. I use this as a facial cleanser (no breakouts on my cystic acne-prone skin), makeup remover, bodywash, and... brush cleanser for cosmetic brushes. It works EXCELLENTLY in removing makeup, be it on my face or on the brushes, everything comes off in a second. I am delighted to have found this use, now I can dispose of the chemical-filled one I've been using. Not exaggerating when I say I will use this product for life! A+++
I love that it's all-natural, unscented and doesn't contain any dangerous and toxic ingredients, chemicals, additives, preservatives, colorants, fragrances, endocrine disruptors, irritants or allergens. It lathers well, gently cleanses the skin, unclogs pores without leaving a greasy film and disrupting the skin's natural pH-balance, and lasts a long time. Shea butter, one of its main ingredients, moisturizes and nourishes the skin, improving its elasticity and making its softer and smoother. This liquid African black soap is best for oily and combination skin, as well as for washing hands. It can be a little dehydrating for very dry and sensitive skin, though, but overall, it's a great product and alternative to toxic, chemical-filled mainstream liquid soaps.
be gentle when lathering soap on face

face and feel sore and reddish if you lather too much and too hard on the skin...........but skin is left squeaky clean and blackheads and whiteheads are diminishing...........dark spots also fading........skin tone more even and lighter................all this after just a couple days of use
not blacks, brown

Good soap. I use it for my acne.
Best soap out there

This soap is much richer than the other liquid african soap from Alaffia. You get less but it's worth it, because a very small amount goes a long way (and you save on shipping as well). Any soap, however, will disrupt the hormone balance of the skin - I repeat, ANY soap (because they all remove the natural oils and moisture). So I use even this soap sparingly and only if necessary. The oil that our skin produces itself is best for the skin, meaning that no cosmetics can do a better job, no matter what the marketing people tell you. I get way less acne if I just wash my face with water, for example.
