The length of time for the expiration date or "best used before" date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.
Perishable items (such as flax oils or certain probiotics) generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage (freezer or refrigeration unit) for maximum freshness.
Our receiving department does its best to verify and then enter the correct expiration dates for all incoming products. However, discrepancies do occur from time to time. This being said, the exceptionally high turnover at iHerb ensures that our inventory is among the freshest in the industry.
The Shipping Weight includes the product, protective packaging material and the actual shipping box. In addition, the Shipping Weight may be adjusted for the Dimensional Weight (e.g. length, width & height) of a package. Thought to have originated in Latin America over 7,000 years ago, this simple, beautiful bean has a mild, sweet, earthy taste, and a soft texture. High in iron, fiber, protein and low in fat, these classic beans make a healthy and delicious staple for every meal of the day.
Diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods low in total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.
Beans, peas and lentils are natural agricultural products. Despite use of modern agricultural equipment, it is not always possible to remove all foreign material. Sort and rinse before cooking.
Soak beans overnight. Drain and rinse beans. Add 3 cups of water for every 1 cup of black beans. Liquid should be 1-2" above top of beans. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 1- 1 1/2 hours. Or pressure cook 6-10 minutes.
- 1 cup of beans yield 2 -2 1/2 cups cooked beans.
- Cooked beans can store up to 1 week in the refrigerator and up to 6 months in the freezer.

I love pinto beans, but recently found out that black beans are the healthiest bean there is according to studies done regarding things like highest level of antioxidants in any bean, great source of fiber and more vitamins compared to other beans. I found this out on nutritionfacts.org. In case you are curious, pinto beans came in 2nd for healthiest beans...both are considered to be good helpers in reducing bad cholesterol. Beans, if prepared and cooked properly, can be a very nutritious and satisfying "staple" food to a healthy diet. Bean Cooking Preparation Tip: soak beans in pure non tap water over night with a tablespoon or two of fresh squeezed lemon juice and drain before cooking for best results and maximum benefits from beans. This causes the enzyme "inhibitors" from getting in the way of good nutrient absorption. It also activates the good nutrient assisting enzymes for better digestion. For even better benefits from beans, soak them in pure plain water until they begin to sprout. You can then eat them as is or cook them as well. I like to use a pressure cooker to save time.
