"Groat" is an old Scottish word from hundreds of years ago, that refers to cereal made from whole, hull-less oats. They take a bit longer to prepare than cut or rolled oats, but the exceptionally hearty flavor and chewy subtlety of this wholesome porridge make it well worth the wait. Oats are a very good source of soluble fiber, which prevents cholesterol from entering the bloodstream, so start the day the heart-healthy way with a rich bowl of Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Oat Groats. They also make a great side dish for dinner.
Diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods low in total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.
Double Boiler Method:
The night before, in the upper part of a double boiler, put in 1 cup Oat Groats,1/4 tsp salt and 4 cups boiling water. Cover and cook for 30 min. to 1 hour. Turn off heat and let cereal remain in boiler until morning. Reheat and serve in morning. Makes 4 servings.
Organic whole grain oats.
Manufactured in a facility that also uses tree nuts, soy, wheat and milk.
Keeps best refrigerated or frozen

i eat this stuff daily for breakfast. 10 minutes in a 400F oven will toast the grains; then just grind them in the blender,or food processor, or hand grind, and voila! instant fresh-tasting oatmeal; just add salt & boiling water. mix with a little less water for a dough; flatten on cookie sheet; bake for about 12-15 minutes at 400F, slice while warm; and you have flat bread or crackers. season as desired, salt, pepper, curry powder, seaweed...
perfect for my raw breakfast, soaked and blended with almond milk :)

I"m glad I switched from old fashioned rolled oats to organic oat groats, my bunnies love them so much and they go crazy for them and I would definitely recommend this product as a treat.

The bag burst while shipping so half of it leaked into the box and consequently leaked out of the box. As I walked up to my apartment, I left a trail of oats behind me.

The package arrived in good time, at at good price, with sufficient packaging to protect it but not to excess. The oats are clean, well packaged in protective, thick non-reactive plastic bag. A clip to close the bag was provided! The cooking instruction are clear and correct. The hour required to prepare the oat groats produce a superb oatmeal. I usually prepare mine in a crock pot over night. I adapted the "double boiler" recipe, increasing the water a bit.
