Supports healthy liver function
These seeds, like other dried seeds, may germinate under proper conditions. However, herb and spice seeds sold by Frontier are not intended for sprouting purposes and in many cases will not germinate.
Milk thistle seed is used as a liver tonic, to "support healthy liver function" and overall well being. The hard, dark-colored seeds are ground and used to make a tea or tincture, encapsulated, or added to foods. The whole seeds are also sometimes added to foods.
Grind milk thistle seed in a coffee grinder or spice mill, and add the ground seeds to shakes or cereals. Or encapsulate the ground seed, if preferred. To prepare milk thistle tea, add one cup of boiling water to one teaspoon of ground seeds, and steep for 15 minutes.
The ground seeds can also be prepared as a tincture using a menstruum of 50% alcohol and 50% water (or 100 proof vodka).
The whole seeds can be toasted and added to salads, breads and cereals.
Milk thistle seed has been extensively researched for its protective effects on the liver. While formulations with concentrated levels of silymarin (70 to 80%) are being studied as a treatment for various liver problems (especially in Europe), the whole seed, with its much lower silymarin levels, is used as a liver tonic, to "support healthy liver function" and overall well being. Chronic drug and alcohol abusers also use milk thistle as a supporting herb.
The Botanical Safety Handbook* classifies milk thistle seed as:
Class: 1: Herbs which can be safely consumed when used appropriately.
Per the German Commission E Monograph** for milk thistle seed, there are no known contraindications, side effects or drug interactions.

I really like the nutty taste of these seeds. This is a pleasant surprise because I bought them purely to help my liver. I eat them every day and my skin is bright and clear now. Great price from iHerb too!
I bought this milk thistle seed as a supplement because of its benefits for the liver. I can't believe how good it tastes! It's kind of a flax seed / toasted sunflower seed blend kind of taste. Though I don't think these seeds are toasted. So eating a couple tablespoons a day of these seeds is no problem at all. Thanks Frontier and iHerb!

Normally i order MT from Starwest, but becourse their organic green tea was not to my liking, a bit bitter, i ordered organic green tea from Frontier, which is so much better, i thought to try their milk thistle too. But what a dissapointment, where MT from Starwest tasted bitter and fresh and was light in colour, the MT from Frontier was not bitter but had a unusual burnt kind of taste and was brown in colour. I really don't like the taste. So i won't be using it and ordered the MT from Starwest again.

I hope those seeds are raw as that info was not clearly explained on the package, although nowhere does it say they are roasted. I like the taste, grind them raw and eat them raw, or chew few. Slightly larger than flax seed, and to me tastier.

too many stems

Of all the spices and herb I bought from Frontier, this is the most disappointing one. This bag has way too many stems in it. It was very time consuming to pick them out. Hope the manufacture to tighten quality control on this product.
