Why should I take probiotics? The answer is simple: the explosion of colorectal cancer incidence. Colorectal cancer increasingly seem likely to be caused by a variety of factors, but one emerging and important issue is the effect of intestinal bacteria (the bacteria in your gut) in keeping dangerous microbes and yeasts in check. Over 800 different strains of bacteria are known to inhabit your gut, 400 have been identified and many control the level of microbes and yeasts living in your body. Beneficial bacteria levels in your gut can be enhanced by taking probiotics.
Probiotics are believed to protect us in two ways.
1)The first is the role that they play in our digestive tract. When the digestive tract is healthy, it filters out and eliminates things that can damage it, such as harmful bacteria, toxins, chemicals, and other waste products. On the flip side, it takes in the things that our body needs (nutrients from food and water) and absorbs and helps deliver them to the cells where they are needed.
2) The other way that probiotics help is the impact that they have on our immune system. Some believe that this role is the most important. Our immune system is our protection against germs. When it doesn't function properly, we can suffer from allergic reactions, autoimmune disorders (for example, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and rheumatoid arthritis), and infections (for example, infectious diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori, skin infections, and vaginal infections).
Another function of probiotics is the metabolism of hormones, in particular estrogens. Abnormal metabolism can produce powerful compounds that may cause breast cancer as well as other cancers. Women with deficient or low numbers of probiotic organisms in their colon are at a higher risk of breast cancer. A recent study also found that women who take antibiotics frequently are at a higher risk for breast cancer, most likely because the antibiotics kill the good bacteria that metabolize estrogen in the colon. *********************************************************** In conclusion: I don’t suffer from any disease in particular, but I take this probiotics for prevention. I take 6 to 8 caps/day. I feel very good and my skin looks better.
For childrens, I think the 4caps/day dose it’s enough, but for adults I would recommend that you double the dose.
Don’t forget the importance of probiotics when you are on antibiotics. Optimally, you should take the probiotic throughout the time you are taking the antibiotic, and in higher doses than otherwise.
I’ve tried other brands(europeans) of probiotics, by far I recommend Jarro-Dophilus EPS. With the growing popularity of probiotics, there is a huge variety of supplements from which you can choose. I know, Dr. Ohhira's probiotics have better reviews, but after Fukushima nuclear disaster, I wouldn't try it. In my country(Romania) we still feel the effects of Chernobyl nuclear accident(1986).
Just take at least 4 caps/day of Jarro-Dophilus EPS and your whole body will thank you.
