Yummy

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

I have loved barley since I was a child, yummy chewy goodness. I prepare it for soups - here is a tip, don't cook it in the soup, after it's cooked, add it to your bowl, then spoon the soup over it. It'll keep the soup from getting too starchy. Barley is also great topped with some sauteed veggies and a fried egg. I also eat it for lunch mixed with a little olive oil. iHerb has great prices for BRM barley, better than WF bulk prices.

Makes the best muffins

I used to use oat bran for making muffins, now I use 7 Grain hot cereal. Yum. My husband doesn't like hot cereal, but he will eat it when I make muffins and I feel like he's getting something healthy for breakfast!

Lower in Sugar

I love all Crofter's jellys and preserves. They're lower in sugar grams and the taste is outstanding. I also love that they are organic and a product of Canada. My only concern is where they source their products from, and I hope it's not China!

Perfect in Baked Bread

I love caraway seeds, and use them mostly for baked whole grain bread, but I also love adding them to other savory and sweet recipes, like muffins, cabbage, pork, and my coconut caraway pancakes! The price is right at iHerb too!

Better than King Arthur

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

1 person found the following review helpful

I used to be a devoted user of King Arthur flours for homemeade bread, but I started learning more about how quickly milled flour can lose it's nutrients and become rancid. Since I couldn't afford my own grain mill, I decided to give Bob's Red Mill a try because they offered airtight packaging, unlike KAF which was packaged in a sealed paper bag. I noticed a difference immediately! My bread dough (raw) previously had a slightly bitter taste (rancidity?), even though I always keep my whole wheat flour in the fridge or freezer. No more bitter taste when using Bob's. My dough was rising beautifully, maybe even a little better than with KAF. It's slightly more expensive to buy BRM, but I think it's worth it!

Love it in warmer months

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

Coconut oil is so much easier to use in the warmer summer months when it's liquified. Year round, I use it for frying eggs in my ole cast iron pan, but it's also great in liquid form to use when baking muffins!

Concentrated so you use less

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

I fill both my soap dispensers with bronner's, and lots of water. It's "runny" but it's easy to wash your hands this way. I love that it's natural, and I've even used it to wash thick-skinned produce.

Been using for years!

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

I've been using Bar Keepers Friend for years! It's a gentler cleaner, so it won't scratch most items. I've used it on my enameled cast iron pots, my stoneware bakeware, my glass bakeware, my corelle bakeware and my stainless steel pots. It's great for stains & scratches, and baked on food; just sprinkle some on, making a "paste" with a little water, and lightly scrub. WARNING: Even though it's biodegradable and so much better than products like comet, I don't use it every day because I don't consider it to be 100% non-toxic. I only use it when I absolutely have to, and nothing else is working.

Great for whole grain bread and pancakes

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

I've used BRM barley flour for lots of baked goods like my homemade bread, pancakes, and muffins. BRM makes a quality product, and iHerb's prices are excellent.

Awesome for home baked goods

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

I was a diehard Penzey's spices fan, until I found iHerb. Prices are fantastic and quality is high. I have used BRM poppy seeds in my home baked breads and muffins. I keep wanting to make specific poppy seed muffins someday!

Not a Stevia sweetener fan

Posted on Jan 03, 2013

I'm not a stevia fan, so it was disappointing that the tea was pre-sweetened with stevia. I normally don't like any sweetener in my tea, so I wish it was plain. It's probably a good choice for Stevia lovers, just not a good fit for me.

Love short grain better

Posted on Jul 28, 2012

I love Lundberg rice! But their long grain rice is a bit more difficult to cook, at least for me, and I prefer the chewiness of the short grain.
