great conditioner, some questionable ingredients

Posted on Jul 18, 2015

Great conditioner for dry, thin hair. However, I question the intelligence of the person who decided to include BENZYL ALCOHOL. According to MSDA Safety Data Sheet, Benzyl Alcohol is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin [I assume this means the scalp too]. Severe irritant for eyes, skin and respiratory system. This ingredient is authoritatively classified as "known to be neurotoxic in humans," according to the medical literature (Article by P Grandjean and PJ Landrigan in Lancet).

Used to love it but now looking elsewhere

Posted on Jul 06, 2015

I used this after sunbathing... not only did it cool down my skin, but it also removed the excessive redness on my mum's face. Also, the mintiness seems to reduce the itching of the mosquito bites (not a problem here in the UK, but definitely in other countries...). UPDATE: It currently (July 2015) scores *3* overall on skindeep database PROBLEMS INGREDIENTS: 1) SODIUM HYDROXYMETHYLGLYCINATE (FORMALDEHYDE RELEASER !!! - Score 6 !!!) Cancer, Allergies/immunotoxicity, Contamination concerns (FORMALDEHYDE), Use restrictions - Data: Limited - 2) PHENOXYETHANOL (Score: 4) Allergies/immunotoxicity, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Occupational hazards, Use restrictions Not happy about these ingredients, so I am looking elsewhere. I also think the tube has become smaller over the years and therefore the product is more expensive than before.

Calcium carbonate?

Posted on Jun 20, 2015

Not used regularly for long-term digestive issues (previous H. Pylori infection, GERD etc), because it does not help at all in the short term (made things worse). It seems that it is weaker than Source Naturals' which could be because they recommend taking two capsules twice a day (while Doctor's Best recommend just one capsule twice a day), the PepZin content in one capsule is the same. Other concern: The Doctor's Best PepZin GI bottle I purchased a year ago lists "calcium carbonate" as the first ingredient in the "other ingredients" list. Now, that is an unwelcome discovery, as this ingredient is used as an antacid and so could well impair digestion. Iherb does not list calcium carbonate, so you may want to double-check before you purchase. Hope this is useful.

works but has some unwanted ingredients

Posted on May 31, 2015

Ingredient list includes calcium carbonate (which surely suppresses digestion?), magnesium stearate and stearic acid which are no good for us / I try to avoid AND corn starch (<2%), when we know corn is a known allergen. Why include these? Sucrose (sugar) is also in the ingredient, though a small amount.

Not bad but why does it contain GUAR GUM?

Posted on May 07, 2015

Guar gum has been known to cause digestive issues in at least some people. Most people taking S. Boulardii will have digestive issues and will be taking it for this issue, so really there is no good reason to include GUAR GUM in this product, except sloppiness/shortcuts and low quality. Disappointed in Now Fods...

Gives me indigestion, nausea and slight headache for 1/2 day at a time...

Posted on Mar 19, 2015

I took one last night and had initially severe thirst, then nausea, indigestion and a bit of a headache until this afternoon. Just taken my second dose this evening and, again, thirst, headache, nausea and indigestion! (in spite of taking digestive enzymes, probiotics, liver and gallblader herbs, drinking lots away from meals etc). It would probably have a nice effect on my body if it were absorbed properly but something in this product is definitely not working for me. Back to Co-Q10 for me. 1 start for being non-GMO.

Now I like the taste, thickens nicely

Posted on Mar 18, 2015

The first time I had it, it gave me a headache. I also didn't like the taste. However, now: I only have one scoop a day for a gentle cleansing action and I have grown to like its taste. Not sure it is helping my body get rid of toxins. Would try it again but now too expensive (above UK Customs threshold) and iherb no longer offering VIP discount, so this product is currently not an option for me.

Purchased in error - contains SUCRALOSE!!!

Posted on Jan 03, 2015

3 people found the following review helpful

I thought these were healthy gelatin bars and I wanted to up my intake of gelatin for its health benefits. Expensive for just powder pouches. One star because they also contain SUCRALOSE (bad for you) as well as too much sugar (also bad for you). This information was not given in the main product description. Unhappy.

Extreme stomach pain (like ulcer)

Posted on Nov 02, 2014

I admit I have a bit of a weak stomach (though my digestive issues seemed to have been solved 2 years ago). In any case, I thought it'd be prudent to start by taking just ONE of these WITH a meal (not two away from meals as instructed). At the end of the first day, I had very bad stomach pains, as if a blade was stuck into my stomach, sharp and burning. I will NEVER buy this again, I do NOT recommend you even try these unless you have a very strong digestive system. Be ready to throw the whole pot into the bin as I have had to do. I had high expectations of this item. Very disappointed.

Great low dosage but cannot use it

Posted on Oct 11, 2014

2 people found the following review helpful

Purchased because I was looking for a low dosage of Betain HCI plus someone mentioned "easy to swallow". Really? I just looked at the rough edges of the not-that-small tablet and though "there is no way I can swallow this stuff". I am scared of choking on it. So I have to make a really gritty protein powder mixture to swallow it. I would have preferred a capsule and a solution that does not have stearic acid in it.

Horrible, large tablets with sharp edges

Posted on Sep 24, 2014

Could not swallow these horrible tablets with sharp edges. Had to chew them (horrible taste and far too many unnecessary eccipients). Why are the tablets so large? Remove the eccipients! Why sharp edges? Would not purchase again.
