Savouring Life with Less Sugar Naturally

New to iHerb? Use coupon code KEP382 for up to $10.00 off your first order.

I'm a mom, wife, "food detective" and blogger learning to live with Less Sugar Naturally. A little research about processed foods and learning tricks with real foods (like dates, stevia, spices, whole foods and a touch of sugar) was all it took to convince me to embrace a less processed life...not to mention a little humor and balance. My health improved immediately and I've never looked back. Convincing my family was a challenge, but the right products made a big difference. I really do love iherb. It allows me to save money on my stevia products, spices and low-toxicity beauty products at a savings of 25-50% off local prices. I hope you don't mind my very detailed honest reviews. I do a lot of research and testing for my blog and like to include my findings here. If you are new to iherb, feel free to use my coupon code listed above to save money off your first order! I live in Canada and receive my orders between 1-2 weeks. So far, I haven’t had to pay any additional duties.

Simply amazed but be prepared to experiment!!!!

I recently decided to switch out all my beauty products to non-toxic products. I started with my shampoo choosing Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Hemp Almond Soap. The shampoo felt like it took years of gunk out of my hair but also left it feeling sticky. This is not from residue but rather due to the tiny follicles on the hair sticking out on each strand and tangling with each other due to the high pH of the castille soap. It's the acid/citrus in this hair rinse that helps the follicles to smooth back out. This product scores a "0" for toxicity with the EWG which I think is great. To dispense, I bought 2 squeeze bottle (clear ketchup/mustard bottles from restaurant supply store), one for my diluted Dr. Bronner's soap/shampoo and the other stays empty until I need the conditioner. This stuff looks like clumpy gross mud so you have to dilute it. The smell reminds me of candied orange slices or a fresh clementine. Before my shower I add one and a half capfulls of the Shikakai conditioner with one cup of warm water in my bottle. Give it a good shake and that's it! I pour half on my head and comb it through and then pour on the remaining half. I rinse the bottle out and it's ready for the next use. This leaves my hair amazingly silky smooth. I finish off by using the Dr. Bronner's Style Creme. You really have to experiment with the amount of capfuls, amount of applications and combination of products used to see what works for you. Also, keep in mind that as you detox from chemical filled shampoos and conditioners your scalp can go through an oily phase as it recalibrates its natural oils....so a bit of patience, ponytail days, and again experimentation might be needed. A WORD OF CAUTION: According to Lisa Bronner's blog, don’t do this on colored hair. The color will fade quickly. Since making the change to these hair products I can honestly say that my hair has never felt more beautiful and light. My natural curl has returned. However, it's the peace of mind of knowing how healthy these products are that for me is priceless. Each bottle should give between 20-30 uses. I live in Canada and this conditioner was $6.50 cheaper here on iherb than buying it locally. I've received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. Great hand balm, safe, and effective

My hands are always brutally dry and cracked, therefore, I was looking for hand creams that I can use regularly and feel good about soaking in my body. I picked this balm because Badger balms rate very well for toxicity on the EWG Database. It's very similar to Burt's Bees Hand Salve which I also use, although based on the ingredients I believe the Badger balm has a slightly better ingredients list. Both are greasy so I use these when I have a good 10 minutes to let it sink in. The main difference I found between Burt's and Badger's is the smell. Burt's has a almond/lavender smell....great for relaxing or bedtime. The Badger cream has a wintergreen smell...a more unisex...active smell. It reminds me of those thick pink peppermints I loved as a child. Like I mentioned before, the only problem with this balm is the greasy hands, so for work I use Andalou Naturals hand cream. I will definitely buy this product again! I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. Great ingredients! Great conditioner!

I recently decided to switch out all my beauty products to non or low-toxic products. I purchased this conditioner because it scores a "2" with the EWG. The first time I used it, I found it really thick, "claylike" and hard to dispense. Now, I simply add a capful of conditioner to a squeeze bottle (ketchup/mustard bottle bought at a restaurant supply store), along with a cup of warm water and give it a good shake. I pour half on my head, comb it through and then pour on the remaining half. I rinse the bottle out and it's ready for the next use. This conditioner works great leaving my normally very dry fine frizzy hair amazingly silky smooth. It also brings out my natural curl. I love the smell of this conditioner...a combination of coconut oil, Shea, jojoba and all spice. I use Dr. Bronner's almond castille soap as shampoo and alternate conditioners between this one and Dr. Bronner's hair rinse. This conditioner works great with the Bronner's soap. I also tried Audrey's GPB Rosemary Peppermint Conditioner, but prefer this one. This conditioner was $4 cheaper here on iherb than buying it locally in Canada. I figure each bottle has about 20 uses. I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. My favourite mint lip balm

I recently decided to switch out all my beauty products to non-toxic products. I purchased 3 different lip balms to replace my "toxic" medicated peppermint lip balm ..... "Sierra Bees Organic Mint Burst", "Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Organic" and "Burt's Bees Beeswax". All three use beeswax as a base and peppermint to flavour. The main difference is in the oils each uses. The Sierra Bees uses olive. Dr. Bronners uses jojoba/avocado, whereas Burt's uses coconut/sunflower oil. I really liked all three but Burt's has a long ingredients list including soy and canola, so I won't be buying it again. The remaining two are both organic and great products. If I had to pick my favorite it would be the Sierra Bees as the addition of spearmint gives it a really great taste. It also has the shortest ingredient list and is the cheapest. I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. Excellent Smooth Non-Toxic Eyeliner

Posted on Jun 12, 2013

I picked this eyeliner because it rates a "0" for toxicity with the EWG. It's one of the best rated eyeliners for toxicity here on iherb. It's jojoba-based. I got the "jet set" color. It's a nice subtle black. It's very smooth, glides on without pulling any skin. This eyeliner needs to be applied lightly. Less is best in this case...giving a beautiful natural look. It's softer than most eye liner formulas so more care needs to be taken when sharpening. My eyes are really sensitive and I'm prone to rashes in the corner of my left eye but so far this eyeliner has caused me no irritation! I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. Simply Organic makes Simply the Best!

For the greater part of my life I bought imitation vanilla from the grocery store....a time in my life I will sadly never get back. I remember the first time I tried organic madagascar vanilla.....It was love at first smell. This organic vanilla lingers and flows from your nose to your tastebuds. There’s 3 main types of vanilla.   Tahitian vanilla .... best paired with fruit, Mexican....with spices like ginger and cloves and Madagascar which goes best with cream and chocolate. Simply Organic also sells Ugandan vanilla which is slightly sweeter than Madagascar and has hints of chocolate. I like the Madagascar the best. I love Simply Organics as they don't sell any products that have been irradiated. Their products are dated so that I know how fresh they are ... and they give 1% of their profits to support organic farming causes. I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. Great product for frizzy hair but use sparingly!

I already use the Dr. Bronner's Organic Almond castille soap and Shikakai Conditioning Citrus Hair Rinse. I finished off by using this hair creme which scores a "1" for toxicity on the EWG. I just spread a pea size amount in my palms and finger comb my wet hair concentrating on the ends. Make sure you avoid the scalp as it can make it oily. This product offers a light hold. I noticed my natural curl was more defined...curlier and bouncy. On days that I need extra hold I add a gel. I can honestly say that my hair has never felt more beautiful and light and the peace of mind of knowing how healthy these products are for me is priceless. This product has a light lavender scent that doesn't linger too long after drying. I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. My favourite Coconut Oil!

Posted on Jun 12, 2013

If you’re shopping for coconut oil then you already know it’s good for you. I’ve been using coconut oil in my baking since January 2012 and have found Nutiva to be the best. I know this because I’ve also bought a few really bad coconut oils that tasted old, rancid, and overpowering in my recipes. I find Nutiva’s Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil has always tasted subtle and amazing. They carry both a packed on and a best before date on the lid. It's made from fresh coconuts, not dried copra (coconut flesh). It's unrefined, made from the first pressing of fresh, raw coconuts without the addition of any chemicals, solvents, or bleach. It's cold-pressed in a heat-controlled, chemical-free, hexane-free process where temperatures are kept below 120 degrees. The more heat oil is exposed to, the more prominent the coconut flavor. It's unfermented which means the coconuts were processed promptly and properly. It tastes light, smells fresh and works great in all my recipes. I love using it in my homemade Oreo cookies and it's perfect for making chocolate. I also use coconut oil as a moisturizer for my face and hands. It feels great knowing that my beauty product can be eaten. I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks. My favourite stevia product!

Posted on Jun 12, 2013

1 person found the following review helpful

I’ve been using stevia products since January 2012 and have done a lot of research about it. It’s important to understand that the stevia leaf contains at least 10 different steviol glycosides: stevioside, rebaudioside A, B, C, D, E, and F, dulcoside A, rubusoside, and steviolbioside. Sweetdrops are made with the FDA approved sweetener "High purity steviol glycoside extract" which is made from 2 components of the stevia leaf....approximately equal parts Stevioside and Reb A. There are more refined stevia products out there and also more whole forms of stevia. The other sweetener “Reb-A” is highly refined made from 95% of the single component rebaudioside A. It’s mostly used in packaged products and in sweeteners like Truvia and Purevia. These products also contain sugar alcohols. What's interesting is that the FDA states this about Reb A products on its website: “These products are not Stevia". Back to SweetLeaf's Sweetdrops...While I wished I liked less processed forms of stevia, this is my favourite stevia product....my happy medium. I can’t live without it. It’s clean, pure, and has no bitter taste. I love that SweetLeaf only uses water in its liquid stevia. The drops make it super easy to be consistent in my recipes and unlike the powdered extract, I find that it has no aftertaste. I use this product in all of my baking and beverages. My son and husband who are not sugar-free like this product too and can’t tell when I’ve used it in cookies, ice cream, drinks, etc...I live in Canada and have received all of my iherb orders within 2 weeks.
