Too much Sandalwood!
Posted by MelindaCooks on Feb 23, 2011
The cream is amazing for fighting dry skin (although a little on the greasy side) but the smell is out of control! Even after I was my hands I can still smell the Sandalwood. It is just too much and really doesn't smell like the African Black Soap-soap. Very disappointing!
This lotion has Sandalwood in it!

I bought this because I had already bought the hand cream that actually says it has Sandalwood in it and I was hoping for a lotion that really smelled like the soap. I was really disappointed today when my order finally arrived and right there on the bottle it says "Sandalwood". I blame iHerb for not labeling this correctly, but I am disappointed that Nubian Heritage does not make a lotion with an identical scent as their soap, it really is amazing. The strength of the scent of the Sandalwood in this lotion (and the hand cream) is extremely off putting, and a bit masculine. If you are sensitive to smells, or live/work with people who are-- stay away from this lotion. I haven't tried this one (I'm sending it back for a refund), but I'm sure its thick and creamy like the hand cream. Which is really great for fighting dry skin, but even after you wash your hands, you still smell like really strong Sandalwood.
Exactly what I thought it would be...
I'm giving this product 5 stars because it is nearly identical to Rachel Perry's Tangerine Dream Foaming Facial Soap. I was looking for a replacement and besides the tangerine scent, this soap was right on the money. Overall, I have extremely dry skin, and this product I believe says its for normal to oily, but this still isn't very drying and I can generally use it by itself, but I always use moisturizer anyway.
Decent with other products...
I had read some reviews where people said this product made their face red-- I have really sensitive skin, and I went for it and tried it anyway. It is mint, and scrubbing at the same time, so a little redness seems to be expected. It was really bad the first time I used it, but I've been using it ever since and it doesn't bother me anymore. I think this product also states that it is a "cleanser" and I personally do not like cream cleansers (or anything that doesn't have suds, or appear to be like soap)-- they just don't leave your face feeling very clean. So, I use this after I wash my face with regular soap and before I put on moisturizer.
I bought this because of 5 star reviews...
I don't think its as great as everyone made it out to be. I have long hair, about the last 4 inches are colored (been growing it out to go back to my natural color) and it's a bit damaged towards the ends. The first time I used this shampoo, it cleaned my hair so good, it stripped it of all its natural oils that it became completely unmanageable. I can't stress this fact enough! I could not run my fingers through my hair for anything. On the plus side, it made my hair seem thick, and really clean (clean like it's too clean though. My boyfriend has short hair and he absolutely hated it). I know that washing your hair too frequently is actually not good for your hair, and I used this product on a Monday night and didn't have to wash my hair again until Friday morning. I don't know if using regular shampoo every day is any worse than using this once a week because it really does strip your hair, almost like you bleached it or something. The only way I can use this shampoo is with conditioner, which I have to apply twice just to overcome the unmanageable, tangle-y feeling I get from the shampoo. Lastly, someone wrote it took care of their dandruff. I would say that it's made mine better, but it's definitely still there, and it's not so much better that I would recommend this to anyone to get rid of theirs.
