Best bang for the buck antioxidant
Posted by mikeinbc on Jul 02, 2012
This is by far my favorite supplement. It has an immense amount of positive research behind it and it is less expensive per gram than resveratrol, pycnogenol, red wine extract, astaxanthin, and L theanine. Grape seed extract also contains substantial amounts of natural flavonoids, vitamin E and linoleic acid. It gives me more energy and vibrant skin. I would suggest this antioxidant above all others. As shown in several studies, all antioxidants including grape seed extract should be taken on an empty stomach with vitamin C. One study concluded that the antioxidants in green tea are absorbed 30-98% more effectively by including 30mg of vitamin C. The vitamin C can be in the form of either ascorbic acid and/or citrus juices. The Now Foods brand takes care of this by including 30 mg of natural vitamin C in each capsule.
Happy dreams without pharmaceuticals

Source Naturals melatonin is a safe, inexpensive, and effective antioxidant that helps me get a good nights sleep. I had suffered from insomnia for over a year. I had difficulty falling asleep and I woke up several times during the night. With melatonin, I fall asleep quicker and seldom wake up in the night. Conservative professionals recommend 1mg or less per evening. I use 1/4 mg with great success. These pills are easy to break into smaller doses. Simply break the pill in half with your fingers and then into quarters. For greater success, I take melatonin with 150-300 mg of magnesium citrate. Happy dreams :)
Stress be Gone in a Bottle

I work in a very stressful environment. Yesterday, I had a particularly stressful day. At one point, I was ready to explode. I had a few of these theanine capsules at work, so I took one. WOW. Within 10 minutes, I was complely calm, relaxed, and focused. I was, and still am, completely blown away by the results. As you know, stress is very harmful to your body. The less stress our body takes the healthier we will be. Like all antioxidants, if possible, theanine should be taken with vitamin C for maximum absorption. This could either be absorbic acid vitamin C and/or citrus juices. It just gives you more bang for the buck. Now, take theanine and stay calm.
Antioxidant, Allergies, and Absorption

I purchased Now Foods Quercetin as an additional antioxidant to add to my arsenal. But it came with surprising benefits. During the last month of allergy season, I noticed a huge decrease in my symptoms. No more sneezing, rashes, leaky nose, and breathing issues. The only symptom I noticed was slightly itchy eyes. I discovered recently that quercetin also increases the absorption of resveratrol. The key to most antioxidants is to take on an empty stomach and combine with some form of vitamin C. It has been shown that vitamin C increases the absorption of various green tea antioxidants by 30-98%. This can be extended to many antioxidants. I take a combo of ascorbic acid and lemon juice with all my antioxidants.
Peppermint not as good as Strawberry
Peppermint Bee-Yond lip balm smells good but I prefer the strawberry flavor. It does feel great on my lips, protects with beeswax, and is effective against chapped lips. To top it off, it has all natural and organic ingredients. This is my new favorite brand of lip balm. For real problem chapped or cracked lips, apply vitamin E oil followed by Bee-Yond lip balm. You will have soft beautiful lips before you know it.
Fat loss, heart health, and energy

I've been taking Doctor's Best L Carnitine Fumarate for over a month now. It's giving me a much needed boost in energy and I've lost 8 pounds. I take this supplement with the other components of Dr Sinatra's metabolic cardiology formula. This formula involves D-ribose, COQ10, magnesium, and L-carnitine. I have added R Alpha Lipoic Acid as a important co-factor for L-carnitine. I do not have a heart condition but I'm 47 and my family has a history of heart issues. The four items taken together not only protect my heart but also produce extra energy that I'm really enjoying.

Magnesium - No more eye twitches and excessive chapped lips
Posted by mikeinbc on Jun 23, 2012
My right eye used to twitch in the evening so I decided to try magnesium. A diet lacking in fruits/vegetables and nuts/seeds combined with a stressful environment usually results in a magnesium deficiency. I worked my way up to 1/2 teaspoon twice a day. Go slowly and work your way up since mag is a laxative. Within a week, the eye twitching was completely eliminated. As a bonus, my excessively chapped lips were healed. Take a dose at night to relax you for a restful sleep.

Energy that tastes good
L carnitine is an amino acid involved in the generation of energy in our bodies. It is a component of Dr Sinatra's metabolic cardiology formula (good for the heart). You could add the supplement R alpha lipoic acid as an important co-factor for L-carnitine but it is not essential. Now Food's L carnitine liquid is a delicious and potent way to get this amino acid. One teaspoon is a good initial dose of 1000mg. This would give you 24 servings. I've noticed an increase in energy with absolutely no side effects. A great alternative to pill popping.
Effective organic hand salve

BeeCeuticals Orange and Honey hand salve feels great on my rough skin, protects with beeswax, and is effective as a moisterizer. To top it off, it has all natural and certified organic ingredients. As other reviewers mentioned, this does not have a wonderful smell. It's a great hand salve with a mediocre smell. Try their lip balm. It's amazing.
Great whole food Vitamin C
Posted by mikeinbc on Aug 13, 2012
Madre-C is a great natural whole food source of vitamin C. I'm not a big fan of ascorbic acid. I'd rather have my vitamins from natural sources whenever possible. It seems to mix fairly well in water and the taste is reasonable. Although it's a great product, the packaging is a way too large for the contents. The tub could have easily been reduced by half.
