Let's pretend I give a crap and leave it at that.

I'd say more good things about the products I use but I won't since nobody is paying me to review supplements. So let's pretend I give a crap and leave it at that.

Silymarin Milk Thistle Extract

Posted on Nov 28, 2007

27 people found the following review helpful

I wish Now Foods would put out a Silymarin-Phosphatidylcholine complex product instead of the dandelion and artichoke included in this basic formulation. The quality is good, though. Silymarin-phosphatidylcholine complex is absorbed more easily than regular standardized milk thistle extracts. In clinical trials, the silymarin-phosphatidylcholine complex has worked better for treating liver disorders. A key element in cell membranes, phosphatidylcholine helps the silymarin attach easily to the cell membranes.

Jarrow Formulas, NAC, 600 mg, 100 Tablets

Posted on Oct 27, 2010

35 people found the following review helpful

Clinical research has proven that L-cysteine is safer to take on a daily basis than sustained-release NAC; this powerful antioxidant should be cycled and should not be taken continuously. Please note that NAC is an altered version of L-cysteine and thus has the potential for more side effects. Please use NAC with caution and tell your physician you take this product.

Now Foods, Indole-3-Carbinol with Flax Lignans, 200 mg, 60 Vcaps

Posted on Mar 16, 2009

25 people found the following review helpful

A growing body of evidence documents the potent inhibition of the growth and invasion of a number of human cancers by indole-3-carbinol, a natural constituent of cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower. Its effects have been particularly well studied in its suppression of human breast cancer. A very interesting new (2008) study further reports that I3C is a natural elastase enzymatic inhibitor that disrupts cyclin E protein processing, causing a G1 cell-cycle arrest (stopping progression of cell division) of human breast cancer cells. As the authors explain, “I3C acts as a specific and potent noncompetitive enzymatic inhibitor of human neutrophil elastase activity, which is highly expressed in breast cancer cells and has been shown to be a prognostic marker for reduced survival rates of primary breast cancer patients." In another recent study, 2 researchers report that I3C inhibits cell proliferation and in vitro markers of angiogenesis (expansion of tumor blood supply) in human endothelial cells in the presence of phorbol myristate acetate, a potent angiogenesis stimulator.

7-Keto is not an inert substance.

Posted on Nov 28, 2012

8 people found the following review helpful

There are many DHEA metabolites whose functions are relatively uninvestigated and unknown, perhaps owing to the difficulties in obtaining enforceable patents on natural substances, which are discoveries rather than inventions. 7-Keto DHEA is a metabolite that cannot be converted to either testosterone or estradiol, or to other androgens or estrogens. By the age of 40, humans produce only about 40 percent of the 7-oxo-DHEA that they produced as young adults, and this decline continues with age. 7-Keto DHEA is not an inert substance, however. It increases the levels of two enzymes that are involved in thermogenesis, enzymes that are also increased by thyroid hormone.

☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ (5/5). A high quality vitamin K formulation. Vitamin K has a fairly long half-life in the body so I only need to take this product 2 times per week on Monday and Friday per my doctors orders. Just one bottle will last me over 11 months.

Lithium Orotate

Posted on Dec 14, 2008

22 people found the following review helpful

Low-dose Lithium protects against multiple types of brain damage and can protect against, and may even reverse, the functional and structural abnormalities in the brain’s neurons. It has become increasingly evident that lithium, in particular, has neuroprotective effects against cell injuries caused by a strikingly wide variety of factors, including ischemia (inadequate blood supply), amyloid-beta (the protein constituting senile plaques in Alzheimer’s disease), irradiation, heat shock, and a number of different kinds of neurotoxins. The protective effects occur not just in laboratory cell cultures, but also in animals with a variety of neuro-degenerative diseases and in human patients with bipolar disorder.

CoQ10 without Bioperine

Posted on Mar 11, 2012

7 people found the following review helpful

I like this product because it does not contain bioperine (which can affect liver function) and includes vitamin E to keep the CoQ10 from degrading. By the way, regular CoQ10 is just fine as long as you take it with a meal. Don't let the marketing people and so-called internet experts tell you that you need the more expensive ubiquinol. You don't, unless you enjoy being played.
