Healing With Whole Foods

I first became interested in natural medicine at the age of 18. As a teenager, I experienced many severe health problems such as severe acne, depression, anxiety, low energy, and hypoglycemia (pre-diabetes). As a last resort, I went to see a Naturopathic physician. While skeptical at first, having been brought up on prescription drugs and a Standard American Diet (SAD), I decided to try the changes suggested by the Naturopath. I switched to a whole foods diet, cut out dairy products, started taking vitamins and other supplements, and began exercising and practicing meditation. Within a year, most of my health problems were gone. I have since studied more about natural medicine and tried hundreds of health products. My favorite book is "Healing With Whole Foods" by Paul Pitchford. I have found that a simple, whole-foods based diet, along with some key supplements, exercise, and stress reduction is a great recipe for health. May others find the key to good health, too!

The Master Greens Blend; Using it to Replace Multivitamins

Posted on Aug 15, 2012

I have been curious for some time now about replacing a cabinet full of multivitamins with concentrated whole foods. This product is a great place to start. The product itself is a rich, vibrant shade of green and it tastes incredibly fresh. All of the ingredients in the product are of very high quality. I noticed a big difference in my energy level and overall feeling of strength after taking this product and I found I didn't need to take a multivitamin when taking this product. The company, HealthForce Nutritionals, is arguable the best supplements company in the business and I trust their integrity in delivering the highest quality product. The only minor complaint is that the amount of each ingredient is not listed on the label. Of the 14,000mg "From the Land" Blend, for example, it is unclear how much is oat grass and how much is basil or ginger root. I would appreciate if the company expanded their labelling to add specific amounts of each ingredient. Overall, this product is at the very top of the line in terms of Green Food Blends that have the potential to transform your health and allow you to cut out other expensive supplements. Highly Recommended!

I have ordered this product several times. This product is a good tasting quinoa at a decent price. The quinoa always tastes fresh and cooks up well. I also trust the brand, Equal Exchange. I appreciate that they source products from community co-ops and offer their products at good prices. I will order this product again.

Rich, Vibrant Chlorella; No Concerns About Radiation

Posted on Aug 14, 2012

Purchased at iHerb

I purchased this product as part of my combination of Spirulina/Chlorella to replace a number of multivitamin supplements. I take 20 grams of this product and 20-30 grams of Hawaiian Spirulina per day. Over the course of 3 months, I have experienced a significant improvement in my energy level, my ability to concentrate at work, my ability to recover quickly from long runs, and an overall feeling of well-being and strength. While I don't attribute any miraculous effects to this product or Spirulina, I do feel much more nourished and focused during the day. I attribute some of the effects to the large doses of high quality protein and iron found in these products, things I often felt lacking in my diet. This product in particular is of exceptionally high quality. The Chlorella is a rich shade of green, like a newly sprouted plant, and the smell and taste are very agreeable and energizing to me. I will continue to use Chlorella and Spirulina together and enjoy the added benefit of being able to clean out a closet full of multivitamins and other supplements and replace them with some of the most powerful and concentrated whole food supplements on earth. P.S. Regarding the issue of radiation from the Fukushima disaster, Yaeyama is located far south of the nuclear reactor site, closer to Taiwan than to Japan. In addition, the manufacturer of yaeyama chlorella posts radiation inspection data on their website, which you can visit by doing a google search for "yaeyama chlorella".

Rich Taste, One of the Best

I found this product to have a very rich and creamy flavor. I like that the company works with smaller co-ops and the fact that this is a fair trade product. The chocolate itself isn't too rich and the taste is just right, not too sweet. I find all of Equal Exchange's chocolate products to be of the highest quality, this being no exception. I will certainly order this product again.

The Best Canned Salmon

Posted on Aug 15, 2012

I purchased this canned salmon along with another brand offered on iherb (Crown Prince). I found this product to be far superior. The fact that this product is boneless and skinless means that the salmon you do get is packaged more like tuna. When I eat this product it tastes somewhat like tuna, only with a more distinct salmon flavor. By all means if you can get fresh wild salmon, that is preferable here. If you can't for some reason, this is a nice alternative if you are craving high quality wild salmon.

Super Healthy Whole Food Snacks; More Filling Than Expected

I purchased this product to eat at work and on hiking trips. I have been impressed with Navitas Naturals Brand products, as all the companies' products are sourced from whole, concentrated, superfoods. This product is a nice fusion of cocao, gogi berries, and chia seeds, along with other healthy ingredients. The taste is not overwhelming sweet, it's very grainy and earthy tasting. If you like to eat whole dates and other less sweet dried fruits, this product will probably taste sweet enough for you. You don't get a huge amount of product, but what you do get is surprisingly filling. I would certainly order this product again and try the other varieties, as well.

A Solid Dark Chocolate, Not Fair Trade

Posted on Aug 15, 2012

I enjoyed this dark chocolate. I found the taste to be rich, although not quite up to the quality of other brands. I also noticed out of several bars I ordered, nearly all were slightly melted or broken during transit. Whether this is an issue with shipping or the product itself is uncertain. The cost is quite low and there are some drawbacks. The product is not fair-trade as are several other dark chocolates with higher prices. For this reason, and the difference in taste, I would probably go elsewhere for high cocoa content dark chocolate bars in the future.

Simple Ingredients; Basic Taste

Posted on Aug 19, 2012

Out of all the Raw Revolution food bars, this one is among the simplest. The ingredients are quite basic, mostly cashew, dates, sunflower seeds, and agave. The taste is somewhat similar to Larabars "Cashew Cookie" bar, in that the cashew taste is the main thing you notice. The texture is chewy and slighly slimy as with other Raw Revolution Bars. Personally, this isn't my favorite bar of all Raw Revolution's products, but it certainly beats a lot of other junk food bars on the market.

Switched from Fish Oil; Worth a Try for Vegans/Vegetarians

Posted on Oct 28, 2012

Purchased at iHerb

I recently switched from fish oil to this algae-based DHA due to some concerns over the quality and sustainability practices of major fish oil companies. I have been taking 3 capsules (600mg of DHA) for a few weeks. So far it seems like this product is working similarly to the fish oil. I do have a few concerns with this product. One concern is that there is no EPA, so I will try to get that from another source. Another concern is the price, which is quite a bit higher than with fish oil supplements. I will continue to give this product a try and re-evaluate whether to purchase again. Overall, I think if you are a vegan or vegetarian and are interested in getting DHA from an algae source, this is one of the cheaper products on the market and certainly worth a try.

Mild, Fruit Detox; No Noticeable Effects on Skin

Posted on Aug 15, 2012

I bought this product as part of my fasting/acne program. I found it to be a very mild detox tea with slight fruity taste. It's not as strong as other detox teas and you can really taste the hibiscus. I don't know if it's the hibiscus or something else in this product, but there is an almost chemical type of taste, like highly condensed flavoring. I haven't noticed any different in my skin. I will use the box I currently have, but will go with another detox tea in the future.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia

Corny, I know, but this product makes me think of those ridiculous chia pet commercials. The product itself is high quality, as I have come to expect from Bob's Red Mill. The seeds were fresh and lasted several months in my refrigeration. With all of Chia's health benefits, from it's Omega 3 profile, to fiber, to vitamins, it is truly one of the powerhouse superfoods available today. I would order this product again and enjoy in smoothies or oatmeal.

Nice Red Lentils for Indian Dishes

I purchased these lentils to be used in indian dishes and for lentil soup. The lentils were fresh and tasted quite good when cooked in soup or with rice and spices. I trust that Bob's Red Mill is a quality brand. If I'm looking for red lentils, I will certainly buy this product again.
