Psyllium is a true dietary fiber, even though it is classified by some as a laxative or mucilaginous fiber, and is a convenient way to increase intake of dietary fiber because of its high mucilage content.
This bulking agent swells considerably when added to liquid, which can help to support healthy gastrointestinal transit time. This bulking action and healthy transit time can play an important role in maintaining healthy gastrointestinal function.

I use it to make my own crackers, or "knekkebrød" as we call them in scandinavia. I use 1/2 a cup each of almonds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds and flax seeds with two tablespoons of the husk powder and a big pinch of salt. Grind in magic bullet or food processor. Mix well with 2 cups of water and let soak for about 15 mins. This is enough for two trays. Use parchment paper on tray and use wet (so it doesn't stick) fingers to flatten. Put in middle of oven for about an hour @ 210 f or 100c.
I do not like the powdered version. I like the whole husk, I tried to change my order immediately, but iHerb refused such service. My first disappointment of theirs service. The powder is chocking, hard to swallow, because clumps up.

I am very pleased with the quality of this product. I use it as a laxative. --In many stores, Metamucil is an option for psyllium powder. but it is full of sugars and fake orange flavoring and not as strong as this product that I bought from iherb.
Works well, harder to mix

Pros: Works great, much cheaper than Metamucil. I especially like NOW Foods commitment to sourcing products from quality suppliers and there are NO sweeteners of any kind in this. Cons: Does not mix well. Typically I just want to get this mixed with water, drink, and go on with my day. I don't want to pull out a blender or hand mixer.
Turns baking purple

I have been using this product for making low carb/keto buns with great success in the past. It is ground very fine, and does not leave a gritty texture in the baked product as when I grind psyllium husks in my coffee grinder. Unfortunately, this most recent bag has given the buns a purple colour when baked. This is not an uncommon side effect when using some other brands of psyllium, but I had thought with my previous experience with Now brand, that this was not an issue with this product. I wonder if Now has changed their supplier of psyllium because I read a recent review of the bun recipe in a low carb blog and another person mentioned purple bread using Now psyllium powder. If you are using this psyllium for baking, this is really undesirable.
I like it

I find if I add cold liquid it gels up very quickly. But if I use room temperature liquid and shake it up in a small recycled jam jar it works well. I add greens powder and some maca powder with it sometimes. I find that if I do this first thing in the morning I'm not hungry til lunch time. For me it helps but doesn't make my bowel movement regular as in everyday although I drink plenty of water
