Alaffia's Extra Rich Authentic African Black Soap contains additional fair trade shea butter for a skin cleansing & moisturizing experience that is silky smooth. In West Africa, black soap is known by its Yoruba name, Osse Dudu. "Dudu" means the color black, which comes from extensive "cooking" of the soap to the point of charcoal. Many cultures in West Africa use charcoal to detoxify & purify the skin.
Use: Pump small amount into hand, lather & apply to body with water for gentle cleansing. Suitable as a facial cleanser, body wash, shampoo, hand soap, and shaving soap.
Water, saponified butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter* (&) elaeis guineensis (palm kernel) oil*.

Great liquid African black soap.
Great liquid African black soap.
I love that it's all-natural, unscented and doesn't contain any dangerous and toxic ingredients, chemicals, additives, preservatives, colorants, fragrances, endocrine disruptors, irritants or allergens. It lathers well, gently cleanses the skin, unclogs pores without leaving a greasy film and disrupting the skin's natural pH-balance, and lasts a long time. Shea butter, one of its main ingredients, moisturizes and nourishes the skin, improving its elasticity and making its softer and smoother. This liquid African black soap is best for oily and combination skin, as well as for washing hands. It can be a little dehydrating for very dry and sensitive skin, though, but overall, it's a great product and alternative to toxic, chemical-filled mainstream liquid soaps.
Good but not amazing

It was nice for my legs as i have eczema. It irritated my hands when i applied it to my body as i have a rash on my hand that never goes away. Also will irritate cuts if you have any. Tried it on my face but didnt like the super stripped feeling and this will make your eyes sting so be careful! Aside from the negatives im happy this at least didnt irritate the ezcema on my legs.

Thick and creamy

It is thick and creamy but doesnt't lather very much. It is ok for the body, but doesn't feel good on the hair. I don't like the smell of it. It is unscented but the ingredients has some scent to them ofcourse. It's a bit smoky, like inscense. I like that it has a pump, but I couldn't get all of it out with the pump 'cause it is to short. It was very difficult to get the rest out of the bottle, and it was quite a lot left.

I bought this item randomly at a store a few months ago. I noticed that when I started to use it, it cleared up my acne prone skin, especially during the summer. Last week, I decided to try it on my kinky (4b/4c) hair while on vacation in the Caribbean. I had salt water built up in my hair. This cleaned my hair, but was very gentle (b/c of the shea butter). I followed up with a conditioner, and my hair is extremely manageable. This is the first product I've ever had that I can use on my body, face and hair. IHerb please don't stop selling this product. It is fantastic.
