5-HTP (5-hydroxy L-tryptophan) is a naturally occurring metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan. 5-HTP is converted in the brain to serotonin, a neurotransmitter substance found at the junctions (synapses) between neurons. 5-HTP helps maintain mental and emotional well-being and promotes healthy sleep. Doctor's Best 5-HTP is extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia plant.
Take 1 capsule, with or without food, or as recommended by a nutritionally-informed physician.

Yes, at first I was skeptical but I heard this product mentioned on Dr. Daniel Amen's "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life" video and let me tell you, this is great. It doesn't give you that "high" or "tunnel vision" that Paxil CR and others give you. Get this enhanced with the B6 vitamin because it helps the process go faster with your body breaking it down into seretonin and entering your brain and so forth. Ever since I started taking it 3 weeks ago, I have not been depressed and before that, I'd get depressed at least once a day, sometimes with it lasting all day. This doesn't allow me to venture to those familiar depths anymore but still allows me to think rationally and not be so impulsive or giddy like the other meds made me. I'll be using 5-HTP enhanced with B6 for a long time. Oh, and no side effects.

Take 1 capsule in the morning for two weeks already. In combination with a multivitamin complex and Omega 3 fats observed improvement of sleep, concentration and brain activity, without any exaggeration. Several times taken before bedtime. At night, I slept like a baby, slept all the alarm clocks ...

So, I have been using this supplement for about a week now. It works for me, but I needed to do some adjustments so I will be writing my experience with it. The first day i took it after dinner, and I felt a calming effect. The next day I took it with breakfast, and noticed a nauseating feeling about 1,5 hours after. The day after, I again took it in the morning, but skipped breakfast. Again, after 1-1,5 hours I got nauseous - and it made me sick so I had to leave work early. It made me throw up immediately when I came home. Sorry for the details, but this and reading some more about others experience made it clear to me that this dose (100mg) may not be necessary to everyone. Many get the same effect from 50 mg, 25 even. So I have started taking the supplement together with food, and only the content of half of the pill. I have experienced mild anxiety due to long term stress - which also has given me skin problems (rosacea). With this supplement the agitation is completeley (!) gone, I feel focused and experience less off the symptoms that comes with PMS. I think this is connected with hormonal imbalance, which often could be caused by stress (progesterone deficiency). So. What I've learned: - Take the supplement with food if you experience nausea - Begin with a lower dosage, you can always go higher if you get no effect - Use for 3 months, and then have a brake. (I have not found anything about long term use and side effects but this is affecting your brains production of seratonin, so I will take a pause from this when spring and the sunlight is back) - I have experienced no difference in my sleep, but then again I had no problems with it. But you need seratonin to make melatonin (and to sleep) so I can see how this may be helpful to those with sleep deprivation. - Even though I think it works as it should for me, I only give this product 4 out of 5 stars, because of the high dosage, and the size of the pill which may cause you to take waay too much and also makes it hard to swallow.

My mood is much better and I have more initiative since starting to take 5-HTP.

This product worked wonders for my mom. But in MY case.. all it did was make me feel way worse.
