L-Lysine is an essential free-form amino acid which acts as a precursor for other amino acids, including L-carnitine (needed for fat metabolism). L-Lysine is crucial for the formation of collagen, a major part of the body's connective tissues. L-Lysine also contributes to energy production when converted to acetyl coenzyme A, one of the principal fuels for the Krebs Cycle.

My Overall Favorite Lysine
Posted by 5125231719854309300 on Feb 01, 2017
I have been using Lysine for over 12 years now. I was lucky enough to manage a health food store back then, had easy access to everything, and used Herpanacine to control my oral herpes breakouts (yes, I know we prefer to call them cold sores, but where I live now, they just call it herpes!). Well, the Herpanacine is a truly great product, but too expensive for me personally, so I just made the switch to regular L-Lysine. I believe all Lysine pretty much works if you take enough, but it has been my personal experience that this one seems to be particularly effective. It's been my Lysine of choice for about a year now. At first I was hesitant to try it, I normally prefer caplets, but I was won over by the value, as you get a full 1000 mg per (huge) tablet. I take several supplements daily and prefer to have one larger pill over two smaller pills otherwise I become overwhelmed as my daily number of pills go up. As I mentioned, these pills are pretty huge, but for me, manageable. I also didn't think they would work so well...my theory is that caplets work better because powder should be more absorb-able...not so apparently! Since using this product, I finally have control of my breakouts. This past year I would take them anytime I ate something rich in L-arginine, but have recently added one pill to my daily pill regimen. I forgot that stress and other factors can also induce cold sores, so so far, one pill a day has been keeping my cold sores at bay. Good stuff!! If you can handle swallowing reasonably large pills, these ones are the best.
