Origin, Argentina Mate was first used by the Guarani Indians who believed it could cleanse and heal the spirit. Now, millions enjoy it in South America, particularly in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. Our Mate is grown on a 100% organic, sustainable, three generation family farm in Argentina.
The PlantMate (llex Paraguariensis) is an evergreen plant of the holly family (Aquifoliaceae). The plant can reach heights of 10-12 meters, but is generally pruned to about 4-6 meters. Although the plant does produce small flowers and fruit, only the distinctive oval shaped leaves and stems are plucked for processing.
Mate ConstituentsMate contains vitamins (A, B1 B2, C and E), mineral salts, 15 amino acids and high levels of antioxidants also include alkaloids (such as caffeine). Mate is known to help cope with stress and is beneficial for the nervous and immune systems.
Flavor ProfileBittersweet, cooling, woody with lasting sweetness. Will provide at least 3-4 infusions.
Gourd & BombillaThe Mate Gourd and Bombilla are traditional vessels used for enjoying Yerba Mate. The Gourd is filled one-third full with the leaves and, after adding water, the brew is enjoyed by sipping through the bombilla. Designs and shapes vary from region to region.
Terre. A refreshing ice drink
Terere is more popular than hot mate in tropical South America. It can be prepared by using flavored iced water instead of hot.
Fill a pitcher with water and ice then add your favorite sweetener (agave syrup, maple syrup, or unrefined cane sugar) and fresh lime. (For convenience, organic bottled lemonade or limeade can be used instead.) Fill a small glass cup with organic Yerba Mate, pour the sweet lime water on the Mate and sip with a bombilla.
100% organic Yerba Mate leaves.

I am addicted to this beautiful brew, however after 5 years of missed heart beats, I've sadly had to stop drinking as for me (maybe not others), it has effected me because of the caffeine content. If you have no problems with caffeine, I would highly recommend the taste as it so refreshing. I used to drink up to 4 cups a day:)
Not the best Yerba Mate

I bought this tea in November 2014. I am a big fan of Yerba Mate. This product has excellent packaging in the form of a double lidded tin. Inside the Yerba Mate is a dried, chopped green leaf tea. I was disappointed in the quality of this tea. I guess I am spoiled by the Yerba Mate I order from Mountain Rose Herb in Eugene, Oregon. It is always the freshest and makes the best tasting tea. The Tao of Tea Yerba Mate I found to be not so green and not so fresh. It did not have the delicate flavor that I love about Yerba Mate. I will not order again.

This green tea is absolutely amazing. I'll admit, my experience with green tea does not stretch far beyond twinings and lipton. I've had a few adagio green teas, I've tried matcha, and a couple of other fancy brands of green tea, but this one sticks out. It has an amazing earthy flavor, that really comes out with a tiny bit of sugar or honey. At this price, this is a steal!

Light, but mellow. Delicious, refreshing, high quality tea. One spoon gives at least four pots. I love this tea and use it to replace heavier drinks in the afternoon. Would buy again, this brand and this site. M HUNT Malaysia
