Thorne Research, Pure Ascorbic Acid, 180 Veggie Caps (Discontinued Item)
- Dietary Supplement
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) has several mechanisms of action that give it wide-ranging value to body structures and functions. It is a potent water-soluble antioxidant; it enhances the immune system; and it supports connective tissue formation.
Vitamin C is essential for the support of wound healing because it is a cofactor for the synthesis of collagen and other connective tissue components. The combined effects of vitamin C on collagen synthesis, antioxidant status, and immune function make it an important nutrient for surgery patients and wound healing.
Vitamin C is necessary for the action of the enzymes involved in phase I liver detoxification. In addition, as an antioxidant it helps quench the free-radical intermediates created during this first phase of detoxifying substances in the liver. Furthermore, vitamin C raises levels of the important antioxidant glutathione by increasing its rate of synthesis, thus enhancing the liver's phase II detoxification as well. Vitamin C can also protect against the toxic effects of heavy metals such as lead, aluminum, and cadmium.
The ascorbic acid products manufactured by Thorne contain only pure, crystalline vitamin C – without added corn starch, magnesium stearate, or other lubricants and diluents – to ensure greater bioavailability and efficacy.

Easy to take capsules but I prefer the 1g version of this product that Thorne also offers. Seems to be a better cost for that one as well.

I just can't take ascorbic acid, bothers my stomach too much. Ascorbyl palmitate as in TwinLab Allergy-C gives me no problems at all.
