iHerb Launches Euro Transaction

Online retailer also implementing payment models in China and Australia.

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (August 14, 2014) — iHerb, one of the world’s largest and most successful e-commerce companies, has announced it is accepting the Euro for online sales to customers in 18 European countries.

The company recently implemented major changes on its website for European transactions, allowing customers to use their local currency when buying products. Being able to use local currency is not only more convenient, but also a cost-savings for customers who may otherwise pay a foreign exchange fee.

“iHerb sells to consumers in many countries around the world, so the payment process is much easier when a buyer can use their own currency.” said John McCarthy, Marketing Director at iHerb. “We are continually looking at ways to improve customer convenience and this is a big step toward that.”

Countries within the Eurozone include Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

Last year, iHerb launched Alipay in China and the company is also accepting the Australian dollar in Australia. The company plans to soon announce plans to complete transactions with the Japanese Yen and Korean Won.

The iHerb company began in 1996 as a promoter of the health benefits of St. Johns Wort. iHerb still sells herbs – and lots of them – but today the product line is supplemented by other product categories such as bath & beauty, specialty grocery items, superfoods, kids & babies, pets, creams and lotions, aromatherapy and fitness products.

iHerb carries one of the largest selections of high-quality nutritional products in the world and ships to more than 150 different countries.

“There’s been a growing demand worldwide over the last two decades for natural products, health and wellness aids, vitamins and other items,” McCarthy said. “Our company has been positioned well to serve those customers and we continue to refine our process for serving an international community.”

Although the company’s business is done online, iHerb operates two inventory control and shipping centers – Moreno Valley, California and Hebron, Kentucky – that fill and ship customer orders both domestically and worldwide. Today, iHerb’s product listing includes more than 35,000 products.

As an online retailer, iHerb also has earned a Google Trusted Store designation, and its mobile applications are translated into six different languages.

iHerb’s success stems from its direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform (iHerb) and world-class warehousing and logistics handling systems. It’s careful attention to quality and freshness led to the company’s warehouse design that includes constant temperature controls and refrigeration chambers for maximizing shelf life and product quality. iHerb’s advanced systems, certified by NSF International as a Good Manufacturing Practices facility, enables speedy reordering, efficient stocking, management of expiration dates and special customer requests.

Adding to its customer experience, iHerb’s customer referral program (called iHerb Rewards) provides extra discounts, free products or even cash incentives. Every iHerb customer has a unique referral code (similar to a coupon code) that can be used at the online checkout. iHerb customers share their codes via social media, word-of-mouth, etc. and enable other purchasers to earn discounts or cash as well.

iHerb incorporates a number of environmentally-sound practices into its operations. The company recently converted a key shipping material, switching from recycled plastic bubble wrap to a biodegradable and compostable clam shell shipper for shipping fragile items. The company also has a robust program for supporting charitable causes, including its efforts to support school-building projects for New Hope Cambodia. iHerb has also actively supported humanitarian causes in Ecuador, Somalia and Haiti.
