I use NAC to battle sinus infections. It is very, very effective. It's the only thing that works besides pseudoephedrine, which makes me ill. I used to get debilitating sinus infections that would last for months, and I had no real remedy for them. Neti pots did not work. I tried every possible neti pot concoction under the sun and only got temporary relief at best. Pseudoephedrine worked, but I could only stand to use it for a couple days at a time and that wasn't long enough to totally eliminate a sinus infection. And, as soon as I stopped using it, the infection would come roaring back. An ear nose and throat specialist introduced me to NAC, and I owe that guy a huge debt of gratitude. It's changed my life. A side benefit of NAC is relief from fatigue. But you have to tinker around with it to find the right combination of dosage and diet to get any lasting results. And, in the meantime, it can really dry you out. Not only does it dry out your sinuses, it can dry out your joint cartilage as well and bring on back and knee pain. You have to be careful with it.
Taiwan customs threw a conniption fit over this one. It contains meat products which are restricted in Taiwan. Yes, Taiwan is filthy, and already harbors every disease imaginable, but the government decided to put me through the ringer for trying to import one bag of this product into Taiwan. The people at DHL were A**holes too, but what else is new. Anyway, this is a word of warning, do not have this product shipped to Taiwan. You'll regret it if you do.
I usually buy a fish oil product that isn't offered by Iherb. It has a greater concentration of EPA and DHA per capsule and the overall price isn't bad. But, living in Taiwan, I get nailed on the shipping charges. Fortunately, the LE fish oil isn't bad at all. I've used it before and got good results. I take fish oil to lubricate a chronically sore lower spine. The combination of fish oil, yoga, and a low sugar/moderately low carb diet keeps my spinal pain very manageable.
