Powerful, but. . .

Posted by iHerb Customer on Jul 16, 2011 | Verified Purchase

I think this is an excellent product, but it is extremely powerful and I wish it came with more comprehensive information about safe and proper usage. Most of what I found online emphasizes benefits but did not discuss side effects/risks or ways to reduce or avoid irritation. I recommend this product, but with the following caveat: Get ahold of a copy of the (I think) out of print book "The Cure Is in the Cupboard" which discusses dosing and applications. It still downplays potential side effects (written by seller) but is extremely helpful. I recommend getting both the lower potency (not super strength) AND this super strength one and experimenting with different applications. You may find that you prefer/tolerate the lower strength better for some applications and reserve the higher potency for stronger needs or for internal usage in caps (goes further). One note, you can put a few drops in an empty gelatin capsule and take during/after meals rather than putting under tongue or drinking as the manufacturer directs, to reduce potential for irritation. I prefer this after trying various means. I do highly recommend for tooth and gum issues, but it can cause teeth sensitivity in super strength. 1-2 drops on gauze and left on tooth, changed a few times a day. After any acute situation is under control, you might want to switch to lower strength. Fewer side effects such as nerve irritation, shooting pains (neuralgia type), tooth sensitivity, etc. Unexpected benefits and side effects included more energy, mental clarity, and drastically decreased appetite, more stable blood sugar. In sum, extremely powerful and effective antimicrobial that works really well. Awesome product, but very powerful.

non-irritating but kind of harsh on hair

Posted by iHerb Customer on Sep 23, 2013 | Verified Purchase

Since the bottle has changed, the shampoo also seems different - it is now a different consistency, although ingredient list remains the same. My hair is not looking as good as usual - it seems like the shampoo is a little more harsh. I will be using their hair masque as I have read good reviews of it and switching to another brand for awhile before returning to this one. I am suspecting that this one is good for occasional clarifying but maybe not so great for daily use. I am not sure if the formula has changed; I have found sometimes companies change the formula before changing the label. Or if maybe I have just used it too long and it is just too harsh to use regularly and is starting to take too much of a toll. Either way, not going to use it daily anymore. Looking into Jason and Desert Essence unscented, which I have not tried. It is non-irritating, though, so that is a huge plus. I'm sure this would be fine for those with short hair. For reference, I have waist-length hair.

made in China

I've decided to buy American made and European made xylitol products after having some varied experience with the Spry products. This tastes okay if you are looking for an alternative to mint and something non-irritating, but I wish Spry did not manufacture with Chinese product. It's too hard to tell if weird reactions are due to impurities in product or what. Due to lack of confidence in purity, am switching to 2 other smaller brands, Simply Xylitol and SmartSweet to see how these USA xylitol products fare in comparison. . . .

caused serious fatigue

I have taken other forms of B12 and found them energizing, but this form wiped me out for several days.

Great stuff

I really like this product, even though it is hard to mix. Very clean, pure. Tastes great. I put it in milk, found it hard to dissolve unless use a tall skinny glass filled halfway, that can really stir vigorously. Just the right flavor and not too sweet. Excellent product.

not a fan

I have used several varieties of the Spry gum and thought i would try the candies as a way to get more xylitol. These mints are not objectionable taste wise, though not super yummy. However, I found that these seemed to have something in them that bothered me when used regularly, unlike the Spry gum. I think I am going to look into alternate brands that are not made in China, for confidence about purity. My teen son did like the flavor.
