About Me

I have a serious long-term illness and tried hundreds of products from iherb to keep me going. I didn't previously review products because I take so many in combination and with complex multiple symptoms, it is hard to be sure what effect each product on its own has. Most people with long-term illness have problems in common such as chronic infection, poor immunity and detoxification, impaired metabolism, neuroendocrine exhaustion, gut dysbiosis, etc so they become sensitive to many things and it is hard to find what works for them. I'll try to start writing reviews in case there is anything in my knowledge or experience that helps other people find something which makes a real difference to them.

increases bifido bacteria

Posted by freeradicle on May 11, 2015 | Verified Purchase

The probiotic in Securil produces propionic acid. Propionic acid feeds bifdo bacteria and also inhibits yeast. Bifido bacteria are the main beneficial bacteria in the colon. The colon should contain 1 trillion bacteria/ml whil the small intestine should only contain 10000 bacteria/ml. I used to take a lot of lactobacilli supplements. Lactobacilli also live in the small intestine. For people with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), lactobacilli supplements can aggravate bloating. Now I take Securil with a bifido bacteria supplement only and it's easier to tolerate. It takes a long time to build up bifido levels by supplementation as the bacteria have to survive all the way through the intestinal tract before they reach the colon. Securil is unique in its action because it feeds endogenous bifido bacteria. It's a very good probiotic to start with for people who are unsure which probiotics would suit them.

helps immunity and detox

Posted by freeradicle on May 12, 2015 | Verified Purchase

I use this regularly to help immunity and detox. Herbs Etc make Essiac from non-alcoholic liquid herbal extracts which are easy to take and absorb. I find it works very well with Phytocillin (also by Herbs Etc) to help manage chronic infections.

easiest nasal rinsing system

Posted by freeradicle on May 09, 2015 | Verified Purchase

This is very easy to fill and use and squeezing the plastic pot provides better flow control than the traditional neti pot. There is a faint plastic odour when new but it soon goes away. The instructions say it should be changed every 6 months for hygiene reasons. I think this is because even a small flexible bottle brush can't reach all the inside surfaces. Since it can't be scrubbed out properly, I just rinse it. I'd give it 5 stars if the inside of the pot could be cleaned more thoroughly. The 2 other parts detach and can be cleaned fairly easily.

easiest vit D to take

Posted by freeradicle on Apr 12, 2015 | Verified Purchase

This is the easiest vit D to take that I've found. It is completely tasteless, comes in a convenient dropper bottle and does not have any excipients other than a base of medium-chain triglycerides and mixed tocopherols.

good-tasting whole plant extract

Posted by freeradicle on Dec 25, 2015 | Verified Purchase

Dandelion is a very nutritious herb with all-round beneficial effect. I find it mild enough to use for regular detox and liver support. This is an extract of the whole plant, including leaves and flowers, unlike most other supplements which contain root extract only. I find this better-tasting and more balanced than extracts of the root only.

antioxidant and anti-inflammatory

Posted by freeradicle on Jun 15, 2017 | Verified Purchase

This comes in a small softgel and has a clean taste and minimal excipients. It is a superb carotenoid antioxidant and also has wide-ranging anti-inflammatory effects.

I suffer from gut dysbiosis and use this together with nattokinase to help break down biofilm.

easily-tolerated and absorbed protein supplement

Posted by freeradicle on May 11, 2015 | Verified Purchase

This is the only protein supplement I can tolerate. Protein supplements made from whey, brown rice, seeds, legumes or sprouts have all caused bloating. The leaflet inside the box says that the fish protein is broken down into amino acids and peptides without harsh physical or chemical processing. It says that Seacure contains all the nutrients of the fish, including omega-3, phospholipids and trace minerals. It is also tested for safe levels of mercury. So it is a very good way for people with impaired digestion to get protein as well as the other benefits of eating fish.

restricts yeast overgrowth only

Posted by freeradicle on Apr 13, 2015 | Verified Purchase

I take large amounts of Candex daily but find that it only restricts yeast overgrowth but does not clear it up. It digests the yeast cell wall so it can only work in the parts of the gut which it reaches and not anywhere else. However, it is worth taking for people who cannot tolerate stronger anti-fungals which cause die-off side-effects.

very clean

No scent, no ethoxylates, no chemical preservatives. Cleans well but just slightly drying on the hands.
