STRONG STUFF! A bit expensive...but the right form of absorbable iron :)

I've been suffering from anemia off-and-on for a long time but the condition became quite pronounced while I was pregnant. The doctors kept giving me iron pills that had no positive effect on my anemia. At times I was hospitalized and could barely muster enough energy to walk from my bed to the restroom and back. I'm only 32 years old! Then, I read and researched more about how iron is absorbed. It's most effectively absorbed in the duodenum and the most absorbable form of iron is ferrous gluconate. Iron is not easily absorbed in pill form but is better absorbed as a liquid. I purchased Gaia Herbs, PlantForce Liquid Iron and have been taking it every-other-day. The reason for this is that it is STRONG. It almost burns going down and I can feel an immediate jolt after taking it. You're meant to take it twice/day but I'm down to taking it once a day, every other day. It seems to be working as my energy is more stable now and the dark purplish rings under my eyes are starting to fade. It is pretty expensive stuff but if you have severe anemia that has been persistent and hasn't responded to other treatments, this could possibly be the best way to go about getting your iron and getting your body to absorb it. I will keep using it until the bottle is gone and see how I feel at that point before I reorder. Please note...this product is NOT for pregnant women. I am not pregnant now--I have given birth and am recovering. If you use this product you need to first get blood tests done so that you know that you actually do need to supplement with iron. Be very careful with iron supplements--especially good-tasting liquids like this one because little children can easily be poisoned by them accidentally--always keep it locked up and out of their reach!
Easy Now Tea: One of Key Weapons in My Personal Arsenal
In 2007, I gave birth to my son. It was a completely natural, med-free birth but I had severe bleeding after my son was born and recovery from childbirth was really difficult for me. I also was hit with overwhelming Post-Partum Depression. During my pregnancy I had had horrible panic attacks for months and the PPD was just an extension of that. The PPD was relentless and lasted for nearly 18 months. The first six months I barely remember because it was so bad. I went untreated because I, nor my husband, were educated about PPD. Our whole family suffered. In late 2008, I discovered Easy Now tea. I was nosing around a Health Food Store in my mother's city and came upon this tea. I had always been a tea fan so I picked up a box for less than $5 USD. I've been a faithful consumer of Easy Now since that day and I always have a stash of it in my house. It has seen me through another pregnancy and the post-partum time and half-way through my Master's Degree meanwhile working full-time outside the home and being a wife and mother to two small children. When I'm stressed out, overwhelmed or anxious and cannot sleep, I brew a strong cup of easy now and it helps tremendously. The flavor is very mild and comforting and a bit of stevia included in it gives it a slight sweetness. I've also used this tea with my children to combat severe jetlag as we live a 16-hour flight away from my parents in the States and it has been such a useful tea to have for that!
Delicious Extract for Making Buttermints!

We've been using this to make Buttermints. I got the recipe from the Blog "Empowered Sustenance". I'll post the recipe below. This is a great extract and we love using it. Will order it again! Buttermints for sugar cravings Ingredients 1 cup butter, organic pasture butter is the healthiest! (If using ghee, which is an oil, it will not emulsify with the honey. See the note on the recipe below) 10-12 drops therapeutic grade peppermint essential oil (I recommend this one) OR 1/8 - 1/4 tsp. peppermint extract (I use the oil) Taste and adjust amount as necessary. 3 Tbs. raw honey (You can increase to 4 Tbs. if desired) Small pinch of unrefined salt Optional: 2 Tbs. cocoa powder for a chocolate version (a reader's suggestion) Instructions Have the butter at room temperature. Stir together all ingredients then scoop it into a disposable pastry bag or zip-top bag. You can use a metal pastry tip like I did, I just stuck the metal tip into the end of a zip-top bag and then cut off a corner of the bag (see picture above). If you don't want to use a tip, just snip of the corner of the bag. Squeeze bite-sized buttons onto a baking sheet lined with unbleached parchment paper. Place in the fridge until firm, about 2 hours, then transfer to a storage container and store in the fridge. Notes For a chocolate version: A reader told me she made this recipe with the addition of 2 Tbs. cocoa powder, for a chocolate version, with success. That sounds like a great idea and I wanted to share it here! Inspired by this recipe from Shaye at The Elliot Homestead.
Halitosis' Worst Enemy=Jarrow Formulas, Mastic Gum 500

Some of my family members have struggled with incurable halitosis for years. Despite brushing and diet changes and consulting with doctors, the bad breath persisted. That's why I sought out some sort of natural help and came across mastic gum. Since using mastic gum, my family members' halitosis is nearly nonexistent and we're all excited about that. I buy Jarrow because I trust the brand and it is good value-for-money.

I do like the taste of dandelion tea but sometimes I'm too busy to brew it and forget. I've been diagnosed with some liver issues and since starting to take the dandelion root I've noticed an overall improvement in how I feel. I don't feel as sluggish and I don't retain water like I used to. It's very cleansing!

I wish I had known about this when I was pregnant. These are tiny pills but they are affordable and help a lot with alleviating exhaustion and giving me more energy.

Since our youngest was born about a year ago we've tried to avoid nasty chemicals in all his baby care products. We find that the Dr. Woods Shea Vision Baby Mild Castile Soap works perfectly in a foaming soap dispenser with filtered water to create a nice lather for baby baths. The bottle takes months and months to use up as well, even with daily use. Great buy! Great product!
We Make Our Own Detergent with NaturOil Organic, Hand-Sort Select Soap Nuts
I use these to save a lot of money by making natural, organic, lovely-smelling, effect detergent. Take these soap nuts, boil them in water and then re-boil them again, add a few other ingredients and some essential oils and you've just made yourself some lovely natural, organic laundry detergent that won't harm the environment or your health and will cost you pennies on the dollar of whatever you're spending on store-bought detergents of similar caliber.
In a house of pancake addicts...
It's important to have a lot of maple syrup on hand. Unfortunately, maple syrup is expensive...almost like liquid gold. But, we've found that the powdered version serves our purposes well and helps us stretch our maple syrup budget further (and yes, we actually have to budget for maple syrup because we consume that much!)
Getting our Liquid Sunshine

Unfortunately, with our work and study schedules it seems we just don't get enough sunshine in our lives. Coupled with the fact that we live in a city that is often rainy and overcast it's essential for us to supplement with vitamin D3 and K2 for ours and our childrens' health. I prefer Ortho Molecular Products, Liquid Vitamin D3 and K2 because it is essentially tasteless and can be administered according to weight which means we use it with all of our family members...from young to old. Even our preschooler will take it without a fuss. We will continue to use this product.
