Used this product for years, until recently...
Like a previous poster, I used this shampoo, and many of the other Jason Naturals shampoos for many years. I never really thought about studying the label beyond the highlights, which states that the shampoo is SLS free. For some reason recently, I decided to look at the label again, and wondered what one of first ingredients listed was: Sodium Myreth Sulfate. I was shocked after looking up the ingredient on the net, to find that it is nearly an identical, harh, cheap detergent, known to be an irritant just like SLS. If fact there is only a two atom difference between the two. Even some naturally derived ingredients are too harsh for the skin. Do some research, and you'll be amazed at what is in some of these so-called natural products. I contacted the company and they avoided discussing SMS, except to say that it is from a natural source, and that their lable complies with legal and government standards. A shame. Needless to say, I no longer purchase any of their products. There are alternatives...check out Dr. Bronner's castile soaps. Their own website has much more information about the misleading claims of many companies.
One of the only truly natural soaps available!
I recently switched to Dr. Bronner's castile soaps after discovering the Jason Naturals body wash that I've been using for years actually contains a nearly identical ingredient to SLS (Sodium Myreth Sulfate or SMS). There is only a two atom difference between the two, but technically they're different ingredients, so so-called "natural" companies can legally claim that there products are "SLS free". I was furious to find out that SMS may cause the same irritation and sensitivity that SLS does. Both ingredients are harsh detergents! After doing a little research, I found Dr. Bronner's website, where they actually discuss the many apparent misleading claims made by many well-known companies. They even filed a lawsuit against many of them for misrepresentation. To make a long story/review short, I've since tried Dr. Bronner's, and the difference of a truly natural product is immediately noticeable. I have very sensitive skin and dermatitis, and these soaps do not irritate or aggravate my condition. I use the soap for shampoo as well, since almost all shampoos contain a derivative or close cousin of SLS. Since the lather from shampoo runs down your face while rinsing, if the shampoo contains a harsh detergent, it can also irritate your face and eyes, even though you may be washing your face with a totally different product. You may want to use Dr. Bronner's baby or almond scent castile soap if you're also planning on using this for shampoo. I've found that I like to have a variety of the scents on hand, to switch between during the week. Some days you may feel like an invigorating start to your day and use the peppermint scent. Other days if you're feeling the effects of a cold or allergies, eucalyptus is great for clearing your sinuses. I use the tea tree for scalp and skin irritations such as dandruff and dermatitis (eczema is a form of dermatitis). The almond scent is a nice, calming, soothing scent. Obviously I can't say enough about Dr. Bronner's products, and no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I'm an almost 10-year iHerb customer and have learned alot about herbal and natural products over the years. Smell is too strong. Lingers on plasticware.

A year or so ago the almond smell of this product was changed from very subtle and natural, to a very strong one. The smell is so strong that it somehow bonds with plasticware. The lip of my travel coffee mug smells and tastes like this soap after washing. The other Dishmate fragrances are not as strong and are much more pleasing, and do not linger on plastic dishes afterward. I used to buy this scent all the time, and no longer buy due to the change.
Awful, heavy chemical smell and taste

This product might as well be bleach, because that's exactly what it smells like, especially after adding the "boosting" agent. The taste is a very heavy, awful chemical taste. After trying this product, I'm going back to a bottle of good, old fashion hydrogen peroxide, mixed 50/50 with water for a cheap, effective whitening mouthwash.
Like it better than Dr. Woods

Have been buying the 32 oz. Black Soap with Shea Butter by Dr. Woods for years, and have always wanted an unscented formula (as well as a gallon size refill like Dr. Bronner's soaps). I tried the Alaffia brand recently and now prefer it to Dr. Woods, although it is more expensive. My face has very sensitive skin (dermatitis), and it's very important than anything I put on it is unscented. Now this product just needs to come in a larger size.
Take a little adjusting to since most toothpastes contain SLS
This is a recent addition to the Tom's of Maine toothpaste line. In short, SLS is found in almost all toothpastes, including many natural brands such as Tom's of Maine. SLS is often found to be an irritant to many (in the mouth, the primary concern is that it may contribute to the development of canker sores). It is used in toothpaste predominantly because it is what is responsible for the foaming and consistency you're used to while brushing your teeth. With this SLS-free formulation, it took some getting used to, since there is the noticeable lack of foaming while brushing your teeth, and despite the peppermint flavor of the paste, there is a noticeable licorice taste that lingers (licorice root is used to provide the low-foaming quality). I don't mind the taste, but some who are used to a powerful mint taste may. I haven't had a canker sore since, and I like that I've eliminated one more chemical from the daily barage of the many found in our bath and body products.
Great alternative to chemicals and bleach in major brands

I've been using these tablets for years since I discovered there were many harsh chemicals and bleach in most major brands. There's no need to have such harsh ingredients to wash your dishes in and to add to contaminating our water supply. These tablets do a great job of just cleaning your dishes period. Nothing special or fancy about it. You need to know the hardness of your water to know how much detergent your automatic dishwasher needs (refer to your user's manual). For us, we break a tablet in half and that seems to do the job. How hot your water is is also a big factor to how clean your dishes will get.
Been using for years and have never needed anything else

Don't understand the other post claiming that this didn't work for him. I've been using this deodorant for close to 10 years now, and it has always worked for me. There's no obvious deodorant smell, and most importantly it's aluminum free. It's very effective and a wonderful price for a long-lasting stick.
Good energy. Caution if you also drink coffee during product use.

I'm using this product to try to help lose stubborn belly fat; otherwise I'm not overweight (6'1", 175 pounds). The first few times I used this I did feel jittery despite the packaging claims and claims from others that it did not have that effect on them. I'm a regular coffee drinker as well, and have found that it's best not to mix the two. The energy you get from the supplement is enough that you don't need the additional boost of caffeine. As for weight loss, I haven't really noticed much, but again I'm not overweight--so perhaps it's not a product for specific problem areas as much as overall weight loss.
One of the only truly natural soaps available!

Update 12-05-08: I just received my reorder of several of Dr. Bronner's soaps, and am thrilled to see that iHerb is once again taping the bottle caps prior to shipping so that they don't open and leak. Now my only suggestion for improvement for the company has been resolved. iHerb is the best, and they actually listen to customer feedback too! Thanks. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Obviously I can't say enough about Dr. Bronner's products, and no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way.
