Our Baking Soda is made from the deposits of mineralized sodium bicarbonate. It is extracted by an all-natural water process that uses no chemicals. When used in combination with acidic ingredients, such as buttermilk or molasses, it releases carbon dioxide that causes the batter or dough to rise. It's also a great household cleanser and odor absorber.

Bob's Red Mill products labeled Gluten Free are batch tested in our quality control laboratory. We use an ELISA Gluten Assay test to confirm that a product is gluten free.

Very fine texture, all natural mined not chemically produced

This is the best baking soda I have come across. It's the only one I've found that is naturally sourced from the earth and not made by man through hash chemical processes. It if very finely ground, I use for washing face and hair and brushing teeth. Not as cheap as the chemically mass produced junk but worth the price for the natural quality. iherb has the best price that I've found online and fast delivery.

Strong ammonia smell after baking

Used this to make low carb bread using psyllium husk and Red Mill coconut flour. I had used this recipe for past 3 months with no issues. First loaf was bitter and have strong smell of ammonia that I had to throw it away. Second with half the amount of baking soda was better but ammonia smell was still there. Not sure what's wrong.
