The plump thickness of Steel Cut Oats makes them ideal for providing a rich, hearty texture your favorite oatmeal, muesli, granola bar, cookie, scone, bread, muffin and meatloaf recipes.

Suggested Use

Steel Cut Oat Bread

  • 1 cup Arrowhead Mills Steel Cut Oats
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp Spectrum Canola Oil
  • 3/4 tsp Hain Sea Salt
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 3/4 cup Arrowhead Mills
  • Stone Ground Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 cups Arrowhead Mills
  • Enriched Unbleached White Flour

Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine Steel Cut Oats, maple syrup, oil and salt. Pour boiling water over oats. While the mixture is cooling, dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. After yeast mixture sets for 10 minutes, add the yeast mixture to the oat mixture. Work in the whole wheat flour and enriched unbleached white flour. Knead the mixture and place in a greased mixing bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let rise until doubled in size. Punch down. Place in oiled loaf pan, let rise again to double in size. Bake for about 40 minutes or until done.

I used to be a rolled out fan but once I discovered steel cut oats there was no turning back. Fantastic taste and texture, great roughage for your intestines. When I remember I soak them in water over night before cooking them. Once cooked I add a handful of organic frozen blue berries which defrost just from the heat of the cooked oats (that way nutrients are not lost from the blue berries), mix in a teaspoon of cinnamon, add a little hemp oil and stevia. A healthy way to start the day & they keep you full until lunch time. I like both these and the Country Choice Oats. These ones are a bigger cut

I can take this anytime of the day and it provides good fiber and my doctor recommends them for helping control cholesterol level. I sometimes mix half and half with brown rice and take it with asian food. It will work both for sweet and savoury preparations.
