Mildew on the Wood?

Posted by 5018109889821183954 on Jul 29, 2013 | Verified Purchase

Overall, this brush has been okay. I don't have a problem with the bristles being too stiff or falling out, as others mention. I like the removable handle, which is the perfect length. However, I noticed black streaks of mildew on the brush head (not far from the bristles but on the outside of the head) after only ONE use. After three uses, the black is starting to spread down the handle, so I can only assume that it's mildew. I am baffled by this, as I live in one of the driest climates on the planet (in a small town in Abu Dhabi which has like negative humidity!). It is so dry here, I don't usually need a towel after I shower as the water simply evaporates off. I have never had mildew grow anywhere in our home, including our bathroom. Was I supposed to treat the wooden head and handle before getting it wet, as the wood is quite untreated and porous? I have not submerged the brush in the bath, only ever used it in the shower. Also, I threaded a rope through the handle and have hung it to dry ever since I got it. Was I supposed to dry it flat? Regardless, too expensive for such poor quality. I'm thinking about rubbing the brush down with some olive oil or something now to try to salvage it, but I'm worried that will only trap the mildew inside it.

My pros and cons

Posted by 5412165757248176427 on Dec 30, 2012 | Verified Purchase

PRO: The bristles of the brush are not feather soft nor do they feel like steel wool. They are also not falling out of the brush . The handle does not wiggle out freely while scrubbing back. CON: The head of the brush is seeming to crack at either of the head and bottom. I blame this do to the swelling of the brush and the need to jam the handle into place since it does not come attached. I do not see this brush breaking anytime soon, at least I hope it doesn't. After using it for the past 3-4 weeks I am overall happy with this purchase. If this product lasts another 3-4 months I will surly purchase it again.

Bristles feel nice and natural. Handle is long for hard to reach places. Seems to be good quality.

best body brush by far

Posted by truevitality on Jul 14, 2012 | Verified Purchase

The Bernard Jensen Body brush is the only brush i have ever found that has strong enough bristles to be good for 'dry skin brushing' to use before you shower to rub over your body to get all of the dead skin cells off, revealing young healthy vibrant skin below. Fabulous for winter dead dry skin and helps the largest organ in our body to detoxify - the skin. You'll love it. Just check that when you get your product that it has the handle so you can do your back...my last order didn't have the handles only the brushes.
